The Lack of a Standardized Definition of Chronic Dialysis Treatment in German Statutory Health Insurance Claims Data —Effects on Estimated Incidence and Mortality
CONCLUSION: The lack of a standardized definition of CKF requiring dialysis in German SHI claims data leads to variability in the estimated case numbers, mortality, and health-care costs. These differences are most probably in part due to the variable inclusion of inpatients who received short-term dialysis after AKI.PMID:38381660 | DOI:10.3238/arztebl.m2024.0015 (Source: Deutsches Arzteblatt International)

Indoor Mold —Important Considerations for Medical Advice to Patients
CONCLUSION: Mold in indoor environments should be dealt with by rapid exposure elimination for patients at risk, the rational diagnostic evaluation of any symptoms and signs of disease, and patient education about the possibilities and limitations of diagnostic testing and the generally limited utility of measurements in the affected interior spaces.PMID:38381662 | DOI:10.3238/arztebl.m2024.0018 (Source: Deutsches Arzteblatt International)

Clinical Practice Guideline: Interventions for Developmental Language Delay and Disorders
CONCLUSION: Early parent- and child-centered interventions combined with pedagogical language promotion, and the use of evidence-based treatment components, dose frequencies and forms, and settings, can help improve the efficacy of interventions for developmental language delay and disorders.PMID:38377329 | DOI:10.3238/arztebl.m2024.0004 (Source: Deutsches Arzteblatt International)

Digital Medication Management in Polypharmacy —Findings of a Cluster-Randomized, Controlled Trial With a Stepped-Wedge Design in Primary Care Practices (AdAM)
CONCLUSION: The planned analyses did not reveal any significant effect of the intervention. Pandemic-adjusted analyses yielded evidence that the mortality of adult patients with polypharmacy might potentially be lowered by the CDSS. Controlled trials with appropriate follow-up are needed to prove that a CDSS has significant effects on mortality in patients with polypharmacy.PMID:38377330 | DOI:10.3238/arztebl.m2024.0007 (Source: Deutsches Arzteblatt International)

Phenibut —an Illegal Food Supplement With Psychotropic Effects and Health Risks
CONCLUSION: Phenibut causes symptoms resembling those of gabapentinoid and benzodiazepine use. There have been reports of phenibut use in combination with other psychotropic drugs; in particular, its use together with opiates could increase the risk of coma and respiratory depression. No deaths due to phenibut intoxication have been published in Germany or elsewhere in Western Europe, although such cases may have been overlooked, as this drug is still largely unknown to Western medicine.PMID:38377332 | DOI:10.3238/arztebl.m2024.0003 (Source: Deutsches Arzteblatt International)

Differences in Anthropometric Measures Based on Sex, Age, and Health Status: Findings From the German National Cohort (NAKO)
CONCLUSION: Obesity is widespread in Germany, with notable differences between the sexes in anthropometric values. Obesity was more common in older participants and those with chronic diseases other than cancer. Elevated values were especially common in multimorbid individuals.PMID:38377337 | DOI:10.3238/arztebl.m2024.0016 (Source: Deutsches Arzteblatt International)
