Management of FAIS in professional soccer athletes and return to sports
Orthopade. 2022 Apr 28. doi: 10.1007/s00132-022-04257-2. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe prevalence of femoroacetabular impingement syndrome in professional soccer athletes is high. Professional training and treatment conditions ensure an effective conservative therapy focusing on dynamic stability, motion control, muscle balance and core stability. In the case of persistent limitations, indication for surgery has to be considered carefully. The probability is high that return to a professional level of soccer is feasible. However, the period of rehabilitation is long, leading to a potential conflict area between economi...

Hip impingement surgery: reimbursement in the German DRG system
This article depicts current payments for arthroscopic hip intervention. It is also an issue of which surgeons caring for inpatients and outpatients should be aware. The following coding should not be regarded as a recommendation, but simply as a guide.PMID:35482053 | DOI:10.1007/s00132-022-04256-3 (Source: Der Orthopade)

Does inflammatory activity of Charcot foot affect successful corrective arthrodesis?
This study aims to clarify whether successful bony healing after arthrodesis is related to inflammatory activity of the disease.MATERIAL AND METHOD: N = 80 patients underwent corrective arthrodesis of the midfoot (group 1) or hindfoot/ankle (group 2). A distinction was made between patients with/without diabetes mellitus and with/without pain perception. Intraoperative samples were taken to determine HCS. The osseous healing of the arthrodesis was determined by computed tomography 12 weeks postoperatively.RESULTS: There was an indirect correlation between bony consolidation and HCS. In group 2, there was a significantly wo...

Outpatient care through cross-sector prehabilitation and rehabilitation concepts in outpatient hip and knee arthroplasty
Orthopade. 2022 May;51(5):385-394. doi: 10.1007/s00132-022-04241-w. Epub 2022 Apr 20.ABSTRACTNo appeal by a health politician, no matter how insistent, has ever forced all the operational structures of our health-care system to examine their own efficiencies and cost reduction potentials as has SARS-CoV‑2. Fast-track surgery, developed long before the current pandemic, can become an indispensable element of modern hospital routines through the integration of interlocked care structures. Patient satisfaction and clinical outcome can be improved by significantly shortening hospital stays, decreasing complication rates, and...

Preoperative management in fast-track arthroplasty
Orthopade. 2022 Apr 14. doi: 10.1007/s00132-022-04246-5. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Preoperative management of patients following fast-track arthroplasty protocols includes comprehensive patient information and risk stratification.IMPLEMENTATION: Fast-track protocols have implemented interdisciplinary patient seminars to explain the disease, operation, pain management, early mobilisation and each step of the patient pathway, as well as the role of a friend or relative as a "coach" during the whole process of treatment and rehabilitation to support and encourage the patient. There is strong evidence that preo...
