Rational treatment of depressive syndromes in brain tumor patients
DISCUSSION: The results of this work highlight the need to pay increased attention to mental health in brain tumor patients. It is important that healthcare professionals identify depression in these patients at an early stage and provide appropriate interventions to improve their quality of life. Future research should focus on further exploring the mechanisms behind the association between brain tumors and depression in order to develop targeted and effective intervention options.PMID:37861698 | DOI:10.1007/s00115-023-01558-5 (Source: Der Nervenarzt)

German S3 guidelines on borderline personality disorder
This article highlights the development as well as the main content priorities and recommendations of the guidelines: first, the recommendations on the diagnostics are presented and in this context the upcoming changes to the International Classification of Diseases 11th reversion (ICD-11) are also explained. Subsequently, the most important recommendations on guideline-compliant psychotherapy, pharmacotherapy and treatment settings are presented. Finally, the recommendations concerning relatives (or other significant persons for people with borderline PD) as well as parenthood and borderline PD are presented.PMID:37861697...

Diagnostics and surgical treatment of painful neuromas
CONCLUSION: In addition to standardized diagnostics the management of painful neuromas often requires a surgical intervention after all conservative therapeutic measures have been exhausted. As an alternative to restoring the continuity of the injured nerve, targeted reinnervation of electively denervated target organs by the formerly neuroma-bearing nerve is preferable over other techniques.PMID:37857991 | DOI:10.1007/s00115-023-01563-8 (Source: Der Nervenarzt)

The importance of the human microbiome for mental health
Nervenarzt. 2023 Oct 17. doi: 10.1007/s00115-023-01552-x. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMany common diseases including psychiatric disorders show characteristic alterations in the microbiome. Preclinical studies have uncovered important mechanisms by which the microbiome interacts bidirectionally with neural functions. Dysregulation of the complex interplay between the microbiome, immune system, stress response, and energy homeostasis, particularly in the early stages of life, can predispose to the development of psychiatric symptoms later in life. Although few clinical studies are available to date, the broad influence of...

Choosing the right imaging for the diagnostics and assessment of the course of peripheral nerve injuries
CONCLUSION: In addition to a correct anatomical assignment, the timely decision for a possible intervention and the appropriate concomitant treatment are an important basis for a favorable prognosis of nerve injuries. Imaging techniques should therefore be used early in the diagnostics and follow-up controls of peripheral nerve injuries.PMID:37848647 | DOI:10.1007/s00115-023-01550-z (Source: Der Nervenarzt)
