Sugammadex in systemic mastocytosis : Case report and a  systematic review of literature
We present a case report of a patient with systemic mastocytosis who was given sugammadex for rocuronium reversal. Tryptase levels were monitored during the first postoperative 24 h, without evidence of elevation. We also performed a systematic review to provide an overview of current evidence regarding the safety of using sugammadex in patients suffering from systemic mastocytosis. The search strategy included PubMed and Google Scholar. All studies published up to and including January 2021 concerning anesthetic management in systemic mastocytosis were included. Of the 122 articles located, 9 articles were included: 2 rev...

Frequency distribution and coordination of emergency operations in German hospitals (FACE) : Analysis in 26  hospitals depending on the level of care
CONCLUSION: Cases with high urgency were surgically treated within a short time period. Overall, differences in time management of emergencies were only small between hospital types. The gradations in the temporal implementation of the individual emergency categories were due particularly to distinctions in the resources available, such as the number of operating theaters, including the run times.PMID:34748025 | DOI:10.1007/s00101-021-01064-w (Source: Der Anaesthesist)

Perioperative management of the brain-dead organ donor : Anesthesia between ethics and evidence
CONCLUSION: Due to the lack of evidence, perioperative treatment should be guided by intensive care therapy strategies. The discussion about using anesthetic drugs during organ retrieval remains controversial. Pathophysiological considerations support the use of volatile anesthetics because of possible organ-protective effects. The use of neuromuscular blocking is justified to control any possible motor response resulting from spinal cord reflexes, whereas there is no evidence for a benefit from using opioids. Apart from that, it seems ethically problematic to anesthetise a brain-dead donor. Consequently, knowledge about t...

Technology-enhanced learning in anesthesiology and emergency medicine : A  new approach to medical school teaching in the wake of the pandemic
CONCLUSION: Technology Enhanced Learning was highly valued by our students and helped to reduce the need for classroom teaching; however, for teaching practical skills classroom teaching remains indispensable.PMID:34731270 | PMC:PMC8564793 | DOI:10.1007/s00101-021-01057-9 (Source: Der Anaesthesist)
