Steroids don ’t work for back pain
Patients with lower back pain often receive steroid injections to relieve their discomfort, but a new study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine finds the effects are temporary at best. Severe low back pain is usually related to herniated disk or spinal stenosis (spinal canal narrowing). A review of 38 published studies found there is no strong evidence for using steroids for pain caused by either a herniated disk or spinal canal narrowing. (Source: Dental Abstracts)

Are you addicted to what you love to eat?
Researchers have wondered if we can become addicted to foods for a long time, citing reports of people losing control over how much they eat and experiencing withdrawal when they can ’t have what they want. Now a study of 120 undergraduates at the University of Michigan and nearly 400 adults confirms that there are problematic foods that are difficult to stop eating, much like drugs. Health benefits of hallucinogens?
Hallucinogenic agents such as psilocybin, LSD, and MDMA (ecstasy) have largely been banned for decades, but are now being used for the treatment of depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and addiction. Researchers are also looking at some legal drugs that produce hallucinations, such as ketamine and esketamine, to treat major depression.
