Anti-inflammatory effects of neuregulin-1 in HaCaT keratinocytes and atopic dermatitis-like mice stimulated with Der p 38
This study examines the role of NRG-1 in atopic dermatitis (AD), a chronic skin disease that causes dryness, pruritus, and inflammation. In mice administered Der p 38, the skin presents AD-like symptoms including filaggrin downregulation and infiltration of neutrophils and eosinophils. Noticeably, there is an increased expression of NRG-1, ErbB2, and ErbB4 in the skin. Upregulation of these proteins is significantly correlated to the clinical skin severity score. In human keratinocyte HaCaT cells, exposure to Der p 38 decreased filaggrin expression, and NRG-1 alone had no effect on the expression. However, co-treatment of ...

Protective effects of IL18-105G   & gt;  A and IL18-137C  & gt;  Ggenetic variants on severity of COVID-19
CONCLUSION: The IL18-105G > A and IL18-137C > Gvariants may contribute with protective effects for COVID-19 severity and the effects of IL18-137C > G may be modulating IL-18 production and Th1-mediated immune responses.PMID:38128426 | DOI:10.1016/j.cyto.2023.156476 (Source: Cytokine)

The inhibition effect of caffeic acid on NOX/ROS-dependent macrophages M1-like polarization contributes to relieve the LPS-induced mice mastitis
Cytokine. 2023 Dec 15;174:156471. doi: 10.1016/j.cyto.2023.156471. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe mammary gland is an adipose tissue containing not only adipocytes but also epithelial, endothelial, and immune cells. Epithelial cells and macrophages, as the integral components of the immune system, are on the front line of defense against infection. Our preliminary work proved that caffeic acid (CA) can effectively inhibit the inflammatory cascade of bovine mammary epithelial cells (BMEC) induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and maintain cellular integrity and viability. Here, we investigated the therapeutic effect of CA ...

Interferon-Gamma-Release assay and absolute CD8 lymphocyte count for acquired immunosuppression monitoring in critically ill patients
Cytokine. 2023 Dec 14;174:156474. doi: 10.1016/j.cyto.2023.156474. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGuided biomarker-personalized immunotherapy is advancing rapidly as a means to rejuvenate immune function in injured patients who are the most immunosuppressed. A recent study introduced a fully automated interferon-γ release assay (IGRA) for monitoring the functionality of T lymphocytes in patients with septic shock. While a significant decrease in IFN-γ release capacity was observed, a significant correlation with CD8 lymphocyte absolute count was also reported, raising the question of whether ex-vivo IFN-γ production woul...

Metformin inhibits paclitaxel-induced mechanical allodynia by activating opioidergic pathways and reducing cytokines production in the dorsal root ganglia and thalamus
Cytokine. 2023 Dec 14;174:156468. doi: 10.1016/j.cyto.2023.156468. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIt has been shown that AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) is involved in the nociceptive processing. This observation has prompted us to investigate the effects of the AMPK activator metformin on the paclitaxel-induced mechanical allodynia, a well-established model of neuropathic pain. Mechanical allodynia was induced by four intraperitoneal (i.p) injections of paclitaxel (2 mg/kg.day) in mice. Metformin was administered per os (p.o.). Naltrexoneandglibenclamide were used to investigate mechanisms mediating metformin activity....

Plasma neuron specific enolase (NSE), tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF- α) and soluble IL-2 receptor alpha (sIL-2Rα) levels in children with developmental delay (DD): Use of combined ROC curves to increase their diagnostic value
CONCLUSIONS: Children with DD have significantly altered plasma concentrations of sIL2-Rα, NSE, and TNF-α. NSE, TNF-α and sIL2-Rα can be used as DD blood biomarkers. This information may be helpful in early diagnosis and intervention.PMID:38101168 | DOI:10.1016/j.cyto.2023.156469 (Source: Cytokine)
