Natural Flavonoids as Potential Therapeutics in the Management of Diabetic Wound: A Review
Curr Top Med Chem. 2023 Apr 19. doi: 10.2174/1568026623666230419102140. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFlavonoids are important bioactive phenolic compounds abundant in plants and exhibit different therapeutic potentials. A wound is a significant problem in diabetic individuals. A hyperglycaemic environment alters the normal wound-healing process and increases the risk of microbial infection, leading to hospitalization, morbidity, and amputation. Flavonoids are an important class of phytochemicals with excellent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antidiabetic, antitumor, and wound healing property. Quercetin, he...

Application of Biomimetic Nanoparticles Based on the Cell Membrane in Tumor Therapy
Curr Top Med Chem. 2023 Apr 27. doi: 10.2174/1568026623666230427114622. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDue to their unique biological functionality, nanocarriers can be designed to deliver various anti-tumor drugs in vivo, which has a wide and important application prospect in the field of tumor therapy. However, poor biosafety, short blood circulation time, and weak targeting ability still limit the application of nanoparticles in tumor therapy. In recent years, with the development of biomedicine, the biomimetic technology-based biomembrane-mediated drug delivery system is expected to achieve a breakthrough in tumor-targe...

Employing "Red Flags" to Fight the Most Neglected Diseases: Nitroaromatic as Still Suitable Tools to Treat Human and Veterinary Parasitosis
Curr Top Med Chem. 2023 Apr 27. doi: 10.2174/1568026623666230427114840. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNitroaromatic compounds have been used for treating parasitic diseases since the 1960s. Pharmacological alternatives to treat them are under observation. However, for the most neglected diseases, such as those caused by worms and less known protozoans, nitro compounds are still among the drugs of choice, despite their well-known collateral effects. In this review, we describe the chemistry and the uses of the still most employed nitroaromatic compounds for treating parasitosis caused by worms or lesser-known protozoans. We...

A Quinquennial Review on Recent Advancements and Developments in Search of Anti- malarial Agents
Curr Top Med Chem. 2023 Apr 27. doi: 10.2174/1568026623666230427115241. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMalaria has been a major parasitic disease in tropical and subtropical regions and is estimated to kill between one and two million people (mainly children) every year. Novel anti-malarial agents are urgently needed to combat the malarial parasites enduring resistance to the current medications, leading to increased morbidity and mortality. The heterocycles, holding a prominent position in chemistry and found in both natural and synthetic sources, have shown several biological activities including anti-malarial activity. T...

Natural products as antifungal agents against invasive fungi
CONCLUSION: In this review, we attempted to review the available literature on natural antifungal products and their derivatives. Most of the studied compounds showed potent activity against Candida species, Aspergillus species, or Cryptococcus species. Some of the studied compounds also demonstrated the ability to impair the cell membrane and cell wall, inhibit hypha and biofilms, and cause mitochondrial dysfunction. Although the MoAs of these compounds are not well understood yet, they can be used as lead components for the development of new, effective, and safe antifungal agents through their novel mechanisms.PMID:3707...
