Histaminergic System and Vestibular Function in Normal and Pathological Conditions
Curr Neuropharmacol. 2024 Mar 19. doi: 10.2174/1570159X22666240319123151. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMost neurotransmitter systems are represented in the central and peripheral vestibular system and are thereby involved both in normal vestibular signal processing and the pathophysiology of vestibular disorders. However, there is a special relationship between the vestibular system and the histaminergic system. The purpose of this review is to document how the histaminergic system interferes with normal and pathological vestibular function. In particular, we will discuss neurobiological mechanisms such as neuroinflammati...

Boltzmann's Theorem Revisited: Inaccurate Time-to-Action Clocks in Affective Disorders
Curr Neuropharmacol. 2024 Mar 18. doi: 10.2174/1570159X22666240315100326. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTimely goal-oriented behavior is essential for survival and is shaped by experience. In this paper, a multileveled approach was employed, ranging from the polymorphic level through thermodynamic molecular, cellular, intracellular, extracellular, non-neuronal organelles and electrophysiological waves, attesting for signal variability. By adopting Boltzmann's theorem as a thermodynamic conceptualization of brain work, we found deviations from excitation-inhibition balance and wave decoupling, leading to wider signal variab...

A Mechanistic Review on Protective Effects of Mangosteen and its Xanthones Against Hazardous Materials and Toxins
Curr Neuropharmacol. 2024 Mar 14. doi: 10.2174/1570159X22666240212142655. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDue to its pharmacological properties, α-Mangostin, mainly found in Garcinia mangostana (G. mangostana) L. (Mangosteen, queen of fruits), treats wounds, skin infections, and many other disorders. In fact, α-Mangostin and other xanthonoid, including β-Mangostin and γ-Mangostin, are found in G. mangostana, which have various advantages, namely neuroprotective, anti-proliferative, antinociceptive, antioxidant, pro-apoptotic, anti-obesity, anti-inflammatory, and hypoglycemic through multiple signaling mechanisms, for ins...

The Integration of Top-down and Bottom-up Inputs to the Striatal Cholinergic Interneurons
CONCLUSION: This study provides in vivo evidence that the multiphasic ChI response may require both top-down and bottom-up inputs. The findings suggest that the firing pattern of ChIs correlated to the iLFP might be a useful tool for estimating the degree of contribution of top-down and bottom-up inputs in regulating the firing activity of ChIs.PMID:38420787 | DOI:10.2174/1570159X22666231115151403 (Source: Current Neuropharmacology)
