FTY720 Suppresses Pathogenic Retinal M üller Cell Activation and Chronic Progression by Inhibiting the mTOR/NF-κB Signaling Pathway and Regulating Autophagy
CONCLUSIONS: This study suggests that in an HG-induced rMC-1 cell model, FTY720 significantly inhibited the production of inflammatory cytokines by inhibiting mTOR/NF-κB signaling and regulating autophagy. These findings were associated with a decrease in rMC-1 cell injury, suggesting that FTY720 or related compounds may be valuable modulators of HG-induced retinal injury.PMID:38577836 | DOI:10.1080/02713683.2024.2337301 (Source: Current Eye Research)

The Use of Hand-Held Digital Otoscope as a Basic Nasal Endoscopy Tool for Lacrimal Evaluation and Pedagogy Instrument
CONCLUSION: A digital otoscope with a camera probe is a handy tool for nasal endoscopy and pedagogy. Low-cost gadgets such as this device can effectively be used for performing outpatient nasal endoscopy when expensive endoscopes are unavailable and in peripheral healthcare centers.PMID:38572733 | DOI:10.1080/02713683.2024.2336156 (Source: Current Eye Research)

Method Development for Omics Analyses using Schirmer Strips
CONCLUSION: A high number of relevant metabolomic features can be extracted from longitudinally cut halves of Schirmer strips, which may enable analyses with more than one omics modality from the same sample. With the pre-analytical method described, Schirmer strips can be used for metabolomic analyses even in cases of very low or high tear volume with or without fluorescence.PMID:38567868 | DOI:10.1080/02713683.2024.2335271 (Source: Current Eye Research)

Glycemic Variability and the Thickness of Retinal Layers in Cystic Fibrosis Patients with and without Cystic Fibrosis Related Diabetes
CONCLUSION: Although we investigated a rather small number of patients, we obtained evidence that intraretinal neurodegenerative changes occur in each of our subgroups (CFNG, CFAG, CFRD). Beyond this, our results favor the detrimental role of additional diabetes, as the deviations from healthy controls were most pronounced in the CFRD group and are similar to those seen in patients suffering from type 1 or type 2 diabetes.PMID:38557392 | DOI:10.1080/02713683.2024.2333770 (Source: Current Eye Research)
