Corneal Specialists' Confidence in Identifying Causal Organisms of Microbial Keratitis
Conclusion: In almost half of MK cases, cornea specialists reported lack of confidence in identifying the infection type. Confidence was related to ocular history and circumstances of infection but not by observable signs and symptoms or patient demographics. Tools are needed to assist clinicians with early diagnosis of MK infection type to expedite care and healing.PMID:38078664 | DOI:10.1080/02713683.2023.2288803 (Source: Current Eye Research)

Investigation of Mitochondrial Homeostasis Changes in Lens Epithelium of High-Myopic Cataract
CONCLUSION: This study has identified for the first time the abnormal mitochondrial homeostasis in HMC, and provide a new perspective on the potential mechanisms of HMC, which occurs earlier and at a higher incidence rate than ARC.PMID:38078672 | DOI:10.1080/02713683.2023.2276679 (Source: Current Eye Research)

HPLC-LED-Induced Fluorescence Analysis of Tear Fluids: An Objective Method for Primary Open Angle Glaucoma Diagnosis
CONCLUSION: The results of the study revealed that the utilization of a 278 nm LED excitation in the HPLC system offers good sensitivity for detecting proteins at low concentrations allowing to obtain reliable protein profiles for the diagnosis of POAG.PMID:38078692 | DOI:10.1080/02713683.2023.2289862 (Source: Current Eye Research)

Optimizing Refractive Outcomes of SMILE: Artificial Intelligence versus Conventional State-of-the-Art Nomograms
CONCLUSION: Machine learning endorsed the validity of state-of-the-art linear and non-linear SMILE nomograms. However, improving the accuracy of subjective manifest refraction seems warranted for optimizing ±0.50 D SE predictability beyond an apparent methodological 90% limit.PMID:38032001 | DOI:10.1080/02713683.2023.2282938 (Source: Current Eye Research)
