Prophylactic dialysis improves short-term clinical outcome in patients with non-dialysis-dependent chronic kidney disease undergoing cardiac surgery: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Background
Several studies have reported that prophylactic dialysis can reduce the mortality of non-dialysis-dependent chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients after cardiac surgery. However, the results of complications in these randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were not consistent. We aimed to perform a meta-analysis to systematically evaluate the effect of prophylactic dialysis in these non-dialysis-dependent CKD patients.
Methods
We systematically searched Medline, Embase, Cochrane’s Library and other online sources for related RCTs. Effects of prophylactic dialysis on the incidence of 30 days’ mortality ...

One-year outcome of single-stent crossover versus accurate ostial stenting for isolated left anterior descending ostial stenosis
Conclusions
Our retrospective study suggests that the single-stent crossover technique is associated with a better 1-year clinical outcome compared with accurate ostial stenting in patients with isolated LAD ostial stenosis. (Source: Coronary Artery Disease)

The impact of cognitive impairment in patients with acute coronary syndrome undergoing percutaneous revascularization: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Background
Cognitive impairment has been known to be associated with negative health impacts. Several studies recently demonstrated inconsistent outcomes among cognitive impaired patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Our study aimed to determine the impact of cognitive impairment for patients with ACS.
Methods
Databases were searched through October 2020. Studies reporting revascularization rates, short- and long-term mortality among ACS patients with cognitive impairment were included. Effect estimates from the individual studies were extracted and combined using random effect and generic inverse varianc...

Novel biomarker panel measuring endothelial injury identifies patients at risk of coronary artery syndrome and discordance with low-density lipoprotein cholesterol
Background
Individuals with no history of coronary artery disease can develop acute coronary syndrome (ACS), often in the absence of major risk factors including low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C). We identified risk factors and biomarkers that can help identify those at discordantly high risk of ACS with normal LDL-C using a novel validated coronary artery disease predictive algorithm (CADPA) incorporating biomarkers of endothelial injury.
Methods
Five-year predicted ACS risk was calculated for 6392 persons using CADPA. Persons were classified as low ( (Source: Coronary Artery Disease)

Predictive value of spiral shape in coronary plaque progression: an intraindividual comparative study
Objective
We conducted a pilot study to explore the value of spiral-shaped sign of plaque from coronary computed tomographic angiography (CCTA) in predicting plaque progression by intraindividual comparison.
Methods
A total of 30 patients with a total of 60 plaques who received serial CCTA were retrospectively included and intraindividual compared. The spiral shape was defined as plaques coursing along the long axis of a coronary artery and encircling it at an angle of ≥ 180 degrees. The high-risk and other plaque signs were recorded.
Results
On baseline CCTA, the spiral shape (P (Source: Coronary Artery Disease)

Relationship between impaired repolarization parameters and poor cardiovascular clinical outcomes in patients with potentially serious coronary artery anomalies
Conclusion
Impaired repolarization parameters, including wider fQRSTa, prolonged Tp–e interval, and increased Tp–e/QTc ratio, and IAC may be associated with poor cardiovascular clinical outcomes in potentially serious CCAA patients. (Source: Coronary Artery Disease)
