The potential of phosphorylated α-synuclein as a biomarker for the diagnosis and monitoring of multiple system atrophy
CONCLUSION: The p-syn stands out as a promising biomarker for MSA. It is found in oligodendrocytes and shows a correlation with disease severity and progression. However, further research and validation studies are necessary to establish p-syn as a reliable biomarker for MSA. If proven, p-syn could significantly contribute to early diagnosis, disease monitoring, and assessing treatment response.PMID:38572788 | PMC:PMC10993367 | DOI:10.1111/cns.14678 (Source: CNS Neuroscience and Therapeutics)

Molecular mechanism analyses of post-traumatic epilepsy and hereditary epilepsy based on 10 × single-cell transcriptome sequencing technology
CONCLUSION: Our study explored differences in cells found in a patient with PE compared to a patient with HE, and the transcriptome in the different cells was analyzed for the first time. Studying inflammatory and immune functions might be the best approach for investigating traumatic temporal lobe epilepsy in neurons.PMID:38572804 | PMC:PMC10993349 | DOI:10.1111/cns.14702 (Source: CNS Neuroscience and Therapeutics)

SIRT3 alleviates painful diabetic neuropathy by mediating the FoxO3a-PINK1-Parkin signaling pathway to activate mitophagy
CONCLUSION: These results showed that SIRT3 overexpression ameliorates PDN via activation of FoxO3a-PINK1-Parkin-mediated mitophagy, suggesting that SIRT3 may become an encouraging therapeutic strategy for PDN.PMID:38572816 | PMC:PMC10993345 | DOI:10.1111/cns.14703 (Source: CNS Neuroscience and Therapeutics)

Tracing the path of disruption: < sup > 13 < /sup > C isotope applications in traumatic brain injury-induced metabolic dysfunction
CNS Neurosci Ther. 2024 Mar;30(3):e14693. doi: 10.1111/cns.14693.ABSTRACTCerebral metabolic dysfunction is a critical pathological hallmark observed in the aftermath of traumatic brain injury (TBI), as extensively documented in clinical investigations and experimental models. An in-depth understanding of the bioenergetic disturbances that occur following TBI promises to reveal novel therapeutic targets, paving the way for the timely development of interventions to improve patient outcomes. The 13C isotope tracing technique represents a robust methodological advance, harnessing biochemical quantification to delineate the me...

Serum heme oxygenase-1 level predicts clinical outcome after acute ischemic stroke
CONCLUSIONS: Elevated serum HO-1 levels at baseline were independently associated with improved 3-month functional outcomes post-ischemic stroke. Serum HO-1 measurement may enhance outcome prediction beyond conventional clinical factors.PMID:38544366 | PMC:PMC10973699 | DOI:10.1111/cns.14701 (Source: CNS Neuroscience and Therapeutics)

Identifying of immune-associated genes for assessing the obesity-associated risk to the offspring in maternal obesity: A  bioinformatics and machine learning
CONCLUSION: Two candidate hub genes (Sytl4 and Kcnc2) were identified and a nomogram was developed to predict obesity risk in offspring with maternal obesity. These findings offer potential diagnostic candidate genes for identifying obesity-associated risks in the offspring of obese mothers.PMID:38544384 | PMC:PMC10973700 | DOI:10.1111/cns.14700 (Source: CNS Neuroscience and Therapeutics)
