Effectiveness of metacognitive interventions for mental disorders in adults – a systematic review and meta‐analysis (METACOG)
AbstractWe evaluated the effectiveness and acceptability of metacognitive interventions for mental disorders. We searched electronic databases and included randomized and non ‐randomized controlled trials comparing metacognitive interventions with other treatments in adults with mental disorders. Primary effectiveness and acceptability outcomes were symptom severity and dropout, respectively. We performed random‐effects meta‐analyses. We identified Metacognitive Tr aining (MCTrain), Metacognitive Therapy (MCTherap) and Metacognition Reflection and Insight Therapy (MERIT). We included 49 trials with 2,609 patients. In...

Cognitive –behavioral therapy for Internet gaming disorder: A systematic review and meta‐analysis
ConclusionsThe pooled findings suggest that CBT for IGD is an effective short ‐term intervention for reducing IGD and depressive symptoms. However, the effectiveness of CBT for reducing actual time spent gaming was unclear. Given the limitations of this evidence base, there is a need for more rigorous studies to determine the potential long‐term benefits of CBT for IGD.Public Health Significance StatementGiven the rise in treatment demand for internet gaming disorder (IGD) and problematic gaming, it is necessary to determine which treatments are most effective for whom and under which conditions. This review shows that...

Heterogeneity of Treatment Dropout: PTSD, Depression and Alcohol Use Disorder Reductions in PTSD and AUD/SUD Treatment Non ‐Completers
AbstractTreatment dropout is often assumed to be due to worsening or lack of symptom improvement, despite minimal research examining symptom change among treatment dropouts. Thus, the present study examined symptom change in veterans who discontinued evidence ‐based treatment for comorbid posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and alcohol use disorder (AUD). Participants were veterans who completed at least 1 session of a 12‐session Concurrent Treatment of PTSD and Substance Use Disorders using Prolonged Exposure (COPE) for comorbid PTSD/AUD. The study analyses investigated the forty three percent of the sample (n = 22) ...

INQ ‐15 Cutoff Scores for Suicidal Ideation Screening of Women with Chronic, Invisible Illnesses
In this study, women (N = 942) who reported one or more chronic, invisible illnesses completed an online survey i ncluding the INQ‐15 and the Suicide Behaviors Questionnaire‐Revised (SBQ‐R). PB and TB correlated significantly with SBQ‐R total scores (r = .575 and .437, respectively;p< .01). In a Receiver Operating Characteristic analysis, scores of 17 for PB and 37 for TB maximized the correct classification of high ‐ and low‐risk participants, with slightly higher classification accuracy for PB than TB (AUCs = .781 and.701, respectively). These results support the INQ‐15 scales in screening for suicidal i...
