Expanding the cross-cultural validity of the Enright Forgiveness Inventory short form
Clin Psychol Psychother. 2024 Jan-Feb;31(1):e2960. doi: 10.1002/cpp.2960.ABSTRACTThis research assessed the cross-cultural validity and internal consistency of the Enright Forgiveness Inventory short form (EFI-30). A total of 1677 people across four countries (United States, the Philippines, China and Saudi Arabia) participated in the study. Data analysis relied on multigroup confirmatory factor analysis and assessments of internal consistency. The results indicated that the EFI-30 has the same structure and factor loadings in the four countries and that internal consistency for the EFI-30 factors was >0.80 in the four ...

Family functioning of adolescents with restrictive eating disorders with or without nonsuicidal self-injury
This study examines the family functioning perceptions of 80 families with adolescents experiencing RED, comparing those with and without NSSI, alongside a control group, utilising the FACES-IV assessment. The study also aims to compare the triadic (adolescent-mother-father) perception of family functioning in the three groups. The results reveal distinct family dynamics in adolescents with both RED and NSSI, marked by problematic functioning perceptions from all family members and low parental agreement. A further understanding of the family functioning of adolescents with RED with NSSI can help clinicians in defining the...

A systematic review of the relationship between generic and specific metacognitive beliefs and emotion dysregulation: A metacognitive model of emotion dysregulation
Clin Psychol Psychother. 2024 Jan-Feb;31(1):e2961. doi: 10.1002/cpp.2961.ABSTRACTAlthough a probable association between metacognitive beliefs (also termed 'metacognitions') and emotion dysregulation has been suggested in the literature, the evidence is still sparse and inconclusive. The current study aims to present a comprehensive evaluation of the literature examining the association between metacognitive beliefs and emotion dysregulation. In accordance with Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) criteria, a search was conducted on PubMed and Ebsco. A manual search of reference lists...

A phenomenological comparison of auditory hallucinations between borderline personality disorder and schizophrenia: A systematic review
CONCLUSION: In order to prevent misdiagnosis of AHs in BPD, the DSM-5 may need to acknowledge the broader and more frequent occurrence of psychosis symptoms in BPD clients. Such clarification may enhance diagnostic practices and facilitate more timely access to treatment. There is also a need to develop and trial psychological interventions that explicitly target AHs in BPD.PMID:38358078 | DOI:10.1002/cpp.2958 (Source: Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy)

Brief individual experiential schema therapy in adult outpatients with cluster C personality disorders: Does it work?
This study investigated the effectiveness of brief individual experiential schema therapy (ST) in 12 adult outpatients with cluster C personality disorders (PD) using randomised multiple baseline design. Waitlist period was followed by five explorative sessions, 18 experiential ST sessions, two treatment follow-up (FU) booster sessions and a 6-month FU assessment. Overall well-being (ORS), behavioural treatment goals and negative core beliefs were assessed 60-91 times, global symptomatic distress (BSI) six times. PD severity (SCID-5-PD) was pre-post-analysed. Randomisation and non-parametric tests showed large significant ...

Distress tolerance and lifetime frequency of non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI): A systematic review and meta-analysis
Clin Psychol Psychother. 2024 Jan-Feb;31(1):e2957. doi: 10.1002/cpp.2957.ABSTRACTNSSI has recently been recognized as a significant health issue given its documented association with psychopathology and across a broad spectrum of psychiatric disorders. It has been found that individuals experiencing heightened emotions, which is referred to as an emotional cascade, are more likely to engage in self-injury behaviour due to low levels of distress tolerance (DT). The current meta-analysis using PRISMA guidelines sought to quantify the strength of the association between DT and lifetime frequency of NSSI using 22 eligible stud...

Therapeutic alliance in two forms of guided self-help for binge eating
Clin Psychol Psychother. 2024 Jan-Feb;31(1):e2959. doi: 10.1002/cpp.2959.ABSTRACTThe role of therapeutic alliance within psychological treatments for eating disorders (EDs), including those delivered remotely, is well established. However, few studies have investigated alliance in guided self-help, a widely recommended first-line treatment for EDs characterised by regular binge eating. Using data from a randomised controlled trial, the current study examined both facilitator and patient assessments of alliance within e-mail-assisted and face-to-face guided self-help and looked at associations between alliance, ED symptoms ...

The relationship between treatment integrity and outcome in group psychotherapy: A systematic review
Clin Psychol Psychother. 2024 Jan 13. doi: 10.1002/cpp.2952. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTreatment integrity is defined as the extent to which the treatment has been implemented according to a specific theoretical model. It consists of two components: adherence, that is, the degree to which the therapist implements the techniques prescribed by the theoretical model, and competence, that is, the degree to which the therapist skilfully and appropriately implements the techniques prescribed by the model. Recently, the issue of integrity is gaining increasing importance in psychotherapy research, especially in an attempt to ...

Schema therapy in adults with autism spectrum disorder: A scoping review
DISCUSSION: The current scoping review highlights preliminary research findings and offers valuable suggestions for clinicians treating adults with ASD. This review underscores the need for development of and research in specialized ST protocols and programmes tailored to adults with ASD with chronic mental conditions, such as personality disorders (PDs).PMID:38214936 | DOI:10.1002/cpp.2949 (Source: Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy)

The associations of grief-related rumination with prolonged grief and posttraumatic stress symptoms: A longitudinal study of bereaved after the 2011 terror attack in Norway
Clin Psychol Psychother. 2024 Jan 11. doi: 10.1002/cpp.2950. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAfter the sudden and violent death of a loved one, many bereaved experience symptoms of prolonged grief (PG) and posttraumatic stress (PTS). The present study investigated the cross-sectional and longitudinal associations of grief-related rumination with PG and PTS symptoms among bereaved parents and siblings after the Utøya terror attack in Norway on 22 July 2011 (N = 110, Mage = 43.2 years, 59.1% female). Participants' responses on the Rumination Scale, the Inventory of Complicated Grief and the Impact of Event Scale-Revised 28, 4...

Therapeutic frameworks in integration sessions in substance-assisted psychotherapy: A systematised review
Clin Psychol Psychother. 2023 Dec 26. doi: 10.1002/cpp.2945. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSerotonergic psychedelics and related substances have been explored as potential adjuncts in substance-assisted psychotherapy (SAPT) for treating various disorders. SAPT can be divided into three phases: preparation, administration and integration. Integration is commonly defined as the comprehension and effective application of insights from psychedelic experiences into everyday life. However, there is limited research regarding the most appropriate therapeutic approach during SAPT. In this article, we discuss the current evidence f...

Personality disorder type only sometimes matters: An exploration of patient's personality disorder as a source of variance in early therapeutic alliance
CONCLUSIONS: NPD, DPD and OCPD patients have better initial therapeutic alliances than BPD patients, and their alliances do not differ significantly. BPD patients build weaker alliances, and what poses a challenge for them is not only developing a strong and close bond but also conceptualizing goals and reaching agreement on tasks.PMID:38149525 | DOI:10.1002/cpp.2943 (Source: Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy)
