Arterial adaptations in athletes of dynamic and static sports disciplines – a pilot study
SummaryBackgroundStructural and functional arterial adaptations with regard to the type and level of training in young athletes are understudied. Our research aimed at evaluating them in two types of exercise (dynamic and static) and two levels of engagement (high and recreational).MethodsA total of 76 volunteers formed five groups. Group A included 17 high ‐level dynamic sports athletes 30·9 ± 6·4 years old, group B 14 recreational ones aged 28·7 ± 6·2 years, group C 15 high‐level static sports athletes 26·4 ± 3·9&nb...

Recovery of regional systolic and diastolic myocardial function after acute myocardial infarction evaluated by two ‐dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography
ConclusionsThe most of regional systolic function recovery occurs within the first 2  days. The recovery of regional diastolic function takes longer – the most significant part of improvement occurs within the first 7 days. STE parameters have prognostic value for predicting the improvement of systolic function after 180 days. (Source: Clinical Physiology and Functional Imaging)

Test of simulator ‐based assessment of psychomotor skill in transthoracic echo
Summary BackgroundWe developed a transthoracic echo simulator that measures technical skill in image acquisition in terms of the deviation angle between an acquired image and the anatomically correct plane for that view. We studied whether this metric reflects the clinical experience of providers. MethodsAttendees at an echo course or at the annual meeting of the Swedish Heart Association were invited to test themselves on the simulator by scanning a mannequin and acquiring four views in 15 min: parasternal long axis (pLAX) in patient 1, apical four chamber and apical long axis (aLAX) in patient 2 and pLAX in patient ...

Reliability of autonomic and vascular components of baroreflex sensitivity in adolescents
This study aimed to investigate between‐ and within‐day reliability of BRS and its autonomic and vascular determinants in adolescents. Thirteen male adolescents (14·1 ± 0·5 y) participated in this study. For between‐day reliability, participants completed four experimental visits separated by a minimum of 48‐h. For within‐day reliability, participants repeated BRS assessments three times in the morning with one hour between the measures. BRS was evaluated using the cross‐spectral gain (LFgain) between blood pressure and heart rate interval. BRS was further divided into: 1) vascula...
