Intra- and inter-rater reliability of muscle and fat thickness measurements obtained using portable ultrasonography in older adults
Ultrasonography (US) is a promising tool for assessing body composition, offering accuracy and accessibility. However, technician skills and equipment characteristics can impact measurement reliability. We aimed to evaluate the intra- and inter-rater reliability of two evaluators using A-mode Portable Ultrasound to measure muscle and fat thickness in Brazilian older adults. Reliability and accuracy of bedside capillary blood glucose measurement by glucometers compared to venous blood glucose in critically ill patients: A facility based cross-sectional study
The traditional reference standard, venous blood glucose requires venipuncture and laboratories usually return the test results after 60  min. Our aim was to determine the agreement accuracy of glucose (capillary) levels obtained by POC glucometers with glucose (venous) values by standard laboratory method (glucose-oxidase) and to assess whether and to what extent the glucometers perform uniformly well across the entire range of blo od glucose values. Survival and cancer recurrence after short-course perioperative probiotics in a randomized trial
The long-term impact of perioperative probiotics remains understudied while mounting evidence links microbiome and oncogenesis. Therefore, we analyzed overall survival and cancer recurrence among patients enrolled in a randomized trial of perioperative probiotics. (Source: Clinical Nutrition ESPEN)

The choice of diagnostic modality influences the proportion of low muscle strength, low muscle mass, and sarcopenia in colorectal cancer patients
Low muscle strength, low muscle mass, and sarcopenia have a negative impact on health outcomes in colorectal cancer (CRC) patients. Different diagnostic modalities are used to identify these conditions but it is unknown how well the modalities agree. The aim of this study was to compare different diagnostic modalities by means of calculating the proportion of low muscle strength, low muscle mass, and sarcopenia in CRC patients, and to investigate the agreement for sarcopenia between the various modalities. Effect of Multicomponent Intervention on Malnutrition in Older Adults: A Multicenter Randomized Clinical Trial
Malnutrition is a significant geriatric syndrome (GS) prevalent in older adults and seriously affects patient prognosis and quality of life. We assessed the impact of the multicomponent intervention of health education, dietary advice, and exercise with oral nutritional supplementation (ONS) on nutritional status, body composition, physical functions, and quality of life. What is happening with the clinical nutritionist? Realities and challenges
At hospital level, clinical nutritionists play a fundamental role in health recovery, contributing to shorter hospital stays and addressing hospital malnutrition. However, in Latin America no studies have been conducted on the activities of the nutritionist and the factors influencing their performance. Aims: to describe the activities of the clinical nutritionist in public and private hospital settings in Latin America and to determine the factors associated with disciplinary practice. Methods: A cross-sectional analytical, quantitative study was conducted. (Source: Clinical Nutrition ESPEN)

Influence of aging on extracellular water-to-total body water ratio in community-dwelling females
The European Working Group of Sarcopenia in Older People 2 has emphasized the significance of evaluating not only muscle mass but also muscle quality as a diagnostic criterion for sarcopenia. The extracellular water-to-total body water ratio (ECW/TBW), measured using bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA), has recently received attention as an indicator of muscle quality. However, the influence of aging on the ECW/TBW remains unclear. If ECW/TBW increases with age, it is important to know whether the timing of the decrease in SMI and the increase in ECW/TBW are the same or different. (Source: Clinical Nutrition ESPEN)

A dose –response meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials investigating the effects of omega-3 supplementation on body weight in patients with cancer cachexia
Cachexia is one of the side effects of cancer diseases that can be reduced weight, and lower overall survival. Weight loss has been associated with adverse outcomes in both cancer patients and patients with benign diseases. There is no definitive treatment for fully reverse cachexia. studies showed higher levels of inflammatory markers in patient with cachectic cancer. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the dose –response effects of omega-3 as an anti-inflammatory supplement on body weight in patients with cancer cachexia. (Source: Clinical Nutrition ESPEN)

Bioelectrical impedance analysis as a clinical marker of health status in adult patients with benign gastrointestinal disease: a systematic review
Body composition reflects nutritional status, disease status and progression, and treatment responses. Mounting evidence supports the use of bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) as a non-invasive tool to assess body composition. Patients with benign gastrointestinal (GI) disease experience disease-related alterations in their body composition, and bioimpedance outcomes in patients with benign GI diseases have not previously been summarized. We aimed to evaluate BIA as a clinical body composition marker for benign GI diseases and describe its association with physical health status. (Source: Clinical Nutrition ESPEN)
