ETV6-NTRK2 Fusion in a Patient With Metastatic Pulmonary Atypical Carcinoid Successfully Treated With Entrectinib: A Case Report and Review of the Literature
We present a female patient with metastatic AC after complete resection. Due to low expression of somatostatin receptor in this case, somatostatin analogs and peptide receptor radionuclide therapy were not available. After pursuing other alternative treatments, including chemotherapy (ie, carboplatin, etoposide, capecitabine, temozolomide, and paclitaxel), everolimus, and atezolizumab, she returned with significant progression, including innumerable subcutaneous nodules, left pleura metastasis, multiple bone metastases, and brain metastases. New biopsy analysis revealed an ETV6-NTRK2 fusion. She was immediately administere...

The impact of EGFR T790M mutation status following the development of Osimertinib resistance on the efficacy of Osimertinib in non-small cell lung cancer: A meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Persistence of the T790M gene mutation after the development of Osimertinib resistance is associated with higher therapeutic benefits of Osimertinib in NSCLC patients. The results of tissue detection are more significant than those of plasma detection.PMID:38584122 | PMC:PMC10999367 | DOI:10.1111/crj.13748 (Source: Clinical Lung Cancer)

Genomic ancestry and cancer among Latin Americans
Clin Transl Oncol. 2024 Apr 6. doi: 10.1007/s12094-024-03415-6. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLatin American populations, characterized by intricate admixture patterns resulting from the intermingling of ancestries from European, Native American (NA) Asian, and African ancestries which result in a vast and complex genetic landscape, harboring unique combinations of novel variants. This genetic diversity not only poses challenges in traditional population genetics methods but also opens avenues for a deeper understanding of its implications in health. In cancer, the interplay between genetic ancestry, lifestyle factors, and...

Lung-derived soluble factors support stemness/plasticity and metastatic behaviour of breast cancer cells via the FGF2-DACH1 axis
In this study, we hypothesized that soluble lung-derived factors secreted in the presence of a primary TNBC tumor can influence stemness/plasticity of breast cancer cells. Using an ex vivo pulmonary metastasis assay (PuMA), we observed that the lung microenvironment supports colonization and growth of ALDHhiCD44+ TNBC cells, potentially via interactions with lung-derived FGF2. Exposure of TNBC cells to lung-conditioned media (LCM) generated from mice bearing TNBC primary tumors (tbLCM) significantly enhanced the proportion of ALDHhiCD44+ cells compared to control or LCM from tumor-naïve mice (tnLCM). Further analysis usin...

Left lower lobe sleeve resection for the clear cell variant of pulmonary mucoepidermoid carcinoma: A case report
CONCLUSION: This article describes an unusual case of a clear cell variant of PMEC characterized by the presence of a CRTC3-MAML2 gene fusion in a 22-year-old male. The patient underwent successful left lower lobe sleeve resection. This case underscores the distinctive challenges associated with diagnosing and treating this uncommon malignancy, underscoring the importance of precise diagnosis and personalized treatment strategies.PMID:38576804 | PMC:PMC10989443 | DOI:10.12998/wjcc.v12.i8.1422 (Source: Clinical Lung Cancer)

Occupational and Environmental Exposure Influences the Inflammatory (Pro-and Anti-) Status in Benign Prostate Hyperplasia and Prostate Carcinoma Patients: A Retrospective Analysis
Indian J Clin Biochem. 2024 Apr;39(2):241-247. doi: 10.1007/s12291-023-01112-9. Epub 2023 Jan 13.ABSTRACTMultiple diseases and disorders are connected with occupational and environmental exposure risk. It is also well-established that chemicals and chemical mixtures have an influence on the immune cells of humans. This is an important field of research that has been pursued extensively in relation to autoimmune illnesses, allergy/asthma, and lung cancer, but Prostate Carcinoma has received rare reports. Chronic chemical exposure is known to produce inflammation, which is one of the most prominent characteristics of all mal...

Identification of Genetic Variants in Exon 4 of TP53 in Lung Carcinoma and in Silico Prediction of Their Significance
Indian J Clin Biochem. 2024 Apr;39(2):276-282. doi: 10.1007/s12291-022-01099-9. Epub 2022 Dec 8.ABSTRACTLung cancer is a severe and the leading cause of cancer related deaths in men and women all over the world. Tumor suppressor protein (TP53) encoded by the TP53 gene which plays a pivotal role in various cellular tumor suppression processes viz cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. Henceforth, the present study was aimed to TP53 exon4 variants from lung carcinoma. Histopathologic and clinically proven 20 patients of lung cancer were enrolled in this study the average age of patients was 45 ± 8 years which categorized as early...
