Cell-Free SHOX2 DNA Methylation in Blood as a Molecular Staging Parameter for Risk Stratification in Renal Cell Carcinoma Patients: A Prospective Observational Cohort Study [Cancer Diagnostics]
CONCLUSIONS: Pretherapeutic SHOX2 ccfDNA methylation testing allows for the identification of RCC patients at high risk of death after nephrectomy. These patients might benefit from an adjuvant treatment or early initiation of a palliative treatment. (Source: Clinical Chemistry)

Label-Free Enrichment and Molecular Characterization of Viable Circulating Tumor Cells from Diagnostic Leukapheresis Products [Cancer Diagnostics]
CONCLUSIONS: The increased CTC numbers from fresh or cryopreserved DLA products facilitate multiple functional and molecular analyses and, thus, could improve our knowledge of their biology. (Source: Clinical Chemistry)

Independent Validation of a Diagnostic Noninvasive 3-MicroRNA Ratio Model (uCaP) for Prostate Cancer in Cell-Free Urine [Cancer Diagnostics]
CONCLUSIONS: We successfully validated a urine-based diagnostic 3-miRNA signature for PC (uCaP) in 3 independent patient cohorts from 2 countries. In the future, the simple and noninvasive uCaP test may be used to help more accurately select patients for prostate biopsy. Prospective clinical validation is warranted. (Source: Clinical Chemistry)

Immunotherapy Using Chimeric Antigen Receptor-Engineered T Cells: A Novel Cellular Therapy with Important Implications for the Clinical Laboratory [Review]
BACKGROUND: We have entered a new era of cancer therapy, with a number of immune-based therapies already used clinically as a standard of care. Adoptive cellular immunotherapy using T cells genetically modified with chimeric antigen receptors (CAR-T cells) represents a novel therapeutic approach. CAR-T cells have produced clinical responses in B-cell malignancies that are otherwise refractory to conventional therapies. Two CAR-T cell therapies obtained regulatory approval in 2017, with many more of these therapies under clinical development. CONTENT: This review focuses on the current state of adoptive cellular immunother...
