Relationships of hypoglycemia awareness, hypoglycemia beliefs, and continuous glucose monitoring glycemic profiles with anxiety and depression symptoms in adults with type 1 diabetes using continuous glucose monitoring systems
CONCLUSION: Our findings revealed relationships of impaired hypoglycemia awareness, hypoglycemia beliefs, CGM-detected hypoglycemia with anxiety and depression symptoms in T1D adults who use CGMs.PMID:38428746 | DOI:10.1016/j.diabres.2024.111596 (Source: Clin Med Res)

Problems with opioids beyond misuse
Best Pract Res Clin Rheumatol. 2024 Mar 1:101935. doi: 10.1016/j.berh.2024.101935. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe U.S. is grappling with an opioid epidemic, with millions of adults on long-term opioid therapy (LTOT). Although patients often report pain relief and improved daily function with opioids, research shows no significant differences in short-term outcomes between opioid and non-opioid users, as well as no long-term opioid benefits. This scoping review aims to identify lesser-known side effects of long-term opioid use and increase awareness of them, allowing healthcare providers and patients to better assess the...

Peripartum cardiomyopathy in low- and middle-income countries
Best Pract Res Clin Obstet Gynaecol. 2024 Feb 17;93:102476. doi: 10.1016/j.bpobgyn.2024.102476. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPeripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM) causes pregnancy-associated heart failure, typically during the last month of pregnancy, and up to 6 months post-partum, in women without known cardiovascular disease. PPCM is a global disease, but with a significant geographical variability within and between countries. Its true incidence in Africa is still unknown because of the lack of a PPCM population-based study. The variability in the epidemiology of PPCM between and within countries could be due to difference...

Causal relationship between psychological factors and hepatocellular carcinoma as revealed by Mendelian randomization
CONCLUSION: PD turned out to be a mild risk factor for HCC. In contrast, LARG is a protective factor for HCC. Therefore, it is highly recommended that people with PD are seeking positive leisure activities such as participation in formal religious social activities, which may help them reduce the risk of HCC.PMID:38383696 | PMC:PMC10881603 | DOI:10.1007/s00432-024-05617-5 (Source: Clin Med Res)

Use of class IC antiarrhythmic drugs in patients with structural heart disease and implantable cardioverter defibrillator
CONCLUSION: In a multicenter cohort of ICD-carriers with SHD, class-IC-AADs were associated with a low rate of pro-arrhythmic effects or cardiovascular mortality. The majority of patients remained free from sustained VA during a follow-up of > 2 years. Further efforts should be made to evaluate the safety of class-IC-AADs in SHD patients receiving contemporary cardiovascular therapy.PMID:38372753 | DOI:10.1007/s00392-024-02394-6 (Source: Clin Med Res)
