Role of Micro-RNA in Colorectal Cancer Screening
Publication date: Available online 22 October 2014 Source:Cirugía Española (English Edition) Author(s): José Antonio Rodríguez-Montes , Pablo Menéndez Sánchez MicroRNAs are involved in carcinogenesis through postranscriptional gene regulatory activity. These molecules are involved in various physiological and pathological functions, such as apoptosis, cell proliferation and differentiation, which indicates their functionality in carcinogenesis as tumour suppressor genes or oncogenes. The Role of Sentinel Lymph Node in Colon Cancer Evolution
Conclusions SLNM is a reproducible technique without significant increase in time and costs. Upstaging was obtained in 14% of the patients staged as N0 by conventional technique. At follow-up of N0 patients with SLN+ there seems to be a higher rate of recurrence, which could change the guidelines of adjuvant treatment, but we must interpret the results of it with caution because the sample is small. Is Lung Surgery a Good Option for Octogenarians?
Conclusions Resective lung surgery is feasible and safe in selected patients over 80 years of age. In our experience, squamous cell carcinoma was the most frequent tumor. The most common procedure was lobectomy which is a safe technique with a low complication rate in elderly patients. Pneumonectomy should be avoided, as we have found a significant association with perioperative mortality. (Source: Cirugia Espanola)

Materials and methods Between May 2012 and December 2013, 5 single-port laparoscopic hepatectomies were performed: 1 for benign disease and 4 for colorectal liver metastases. The lesions were approached through a 3–5cm right supraumbilical incision using a single-port access device. All the lesions were located in hepatic segments II or III. Four left lateral sectorectomies and 1 left hepatectomy were performed. Results Median operative time was 135min. No cases were converted to conventional laparoscopic or open surgery. The oral intake b...
