Estrogen receptor beta suppresses the androgen receptor oncogenic effects in triple-negative breast cancer
CONCLUSIONS: This study suggests that ERβ functions as a suppressor mediating the effect of AR in TNBC prognosis and cell proliferation. Therefore, our current research facilitates a better understanding of the role and mechanisms of AR in TNBC carcinogenesis.PMID:38105538 | DOI:10.1097/CM9.0000000000002930 (Source: Chinese Medical Journal)

Research progress in the off-target effects of Bacille Calmette-Gu érin vaccine
Chin Med J (Engl). 2023 Dec 13. doi: 10.1097/CM9.0000000000002890. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine is designed to provide protection against tuberculosis (TB). However, numerous epidemiological, clinical, and immunological studies have shown that BCG vaccination affects neonatal and infant mortality, which may be related to the reduction of TB-unrelated infections and diseases by BCG vaccine. We aimed to discuss the off-target effects of BCG vaccine on un-TB infections and diseases, as well as the potential mechanism and influencing factors. Literature was retrieved mainly from PubMed u...

Metabolic plasticity of T cell fate decision
Chin Med J (Engl). 2023 Dec 12. doi: 10.1097/CM9.0000000000002989. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe efficacy of adaptive immune responses in cancer treatment relies heavily on the state of the T cells. Upon antigen exposure, T cells undergo metabolic reprogramming, leading to the development of functional effectors or memory populations. However, within the tumor microenvironment (TME), metabolic stress impairs CD8+ T cell anti-tumor immunity, resulting in exhausted differentiation. Recent studies suggest that targeting T cell metabolism could offer promising therapeutic opportunities to enhance T cell immunotherapy. In t...

Application of Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition criteria in patients with liver cirrhosis
CONCLUSIONS: This study provided reference values for skeletal muscle mass index and the prevalence of GLIM-defined malnutrition in hospitalized patients with liver cirrhosis. These reference values will contribute to applying the GLIM criteria in cirrhotic patients.PMID:38073306 | DOI:10.1097/CM9.0000000000002937 (Source: Chinese Medical Journal)
