Association among serum per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, lipid profile and metabolic syndrome in Czech adults, HBM-EHES survey 2019
CONCLUSIONS: We found some evidence of a significant association between blood serum PFAS levels and blood cholesterol levels. Our results did not confirm an association between serum PFASs and the metabolic syndrome prevalence.PMID:38309699 | DOI:10.21101/cejph.a7799 (Source: Central European Journal of Public Health)

Possible effect of OAS1 and TMPRSS6 but not DPP4 and ZNF335 polymorphisms on COVID-19 severity in the Czech population
CONCLUSIONS: Common variants within OAS1 (rs4767027) and TMPRSS6 (rs855791) play some role in COVID-19 pathology in the Czech Caucasian population. Whether the depletion of minor allele carriers of these two variants is associated with increased COVID-19 mortality, needs to be analysed in an external confirmatory study.PMID:38309700 | DOI:10.21101/cejph.a7906 (Source: Central European Journal of Public Health)

Opinion of nurses of internal medicine wards regarding factors determining their work - observational and cross-sectional studies
CONCLUSIONS: Participation of nurses in the decision-making process is a direct determinant of occupational burnout. A higher number of patients under the care of a nurse, lack of participation in the decision-making process and a higher age of nurses are predictors of emotional exhaustion and depersonalization.PMID:38309701 | DOI:10.21101/cejph.a7883 (Source: Central European Journal of Public Health)

Premature deaths from fine particles PM < sub > 2.5 < /sub > air pollution in regional capitals of Slovakia during 2016-2020 period
CONCLUSIONS: The estimated number of premature deaths from long-term exposure to particulate matter air pollution in the regional capitals decreased in the given period. The most of the regional capitals with the exception of Bratislava and Žilina, showed similar levels of estimated premature deaths. However, the current geopolitical situation and rising energy prices threaten return to solid fuel burning which is the largest source of particulate matter air pollution in Slovakia and thus reversing positive trends.PMID:38309703 | DOI:10.21101/cejph.a7748 (Source: Central European Journal of Public Health)

Exposure to nanoparticles of magnetite Fe < sub > 3 < /sub > O < sub > 4 < /sub > in three different doses and their influence on selected respiratory parameters of bronchoalveolar lavage after intravenous instillation
CONCLUSION: We assume that the adverse effect of Fe3O4 NPs in our study is probably not correlated with the dose, but rather with the size of the particles or with their surface area.PMID:38309704 | DOI:10.21101/cejph.a7739 (Source: Central European Journal of Public Health)

Perceived relative harm of e-cigarettes among Ukrainian adults
CONCLUSION: Our findings indicate that in Ukraine the perception that e-cigarettes are more harmful than cigarettes, or the lack of knowledge regarding relative risks, prevails. This highlights the importance of accurate risk communication to promote a harm reduction approach to tobacco use.PMID:38309705 | DOI:10.21101/cejph.a7963 (Source: Central European Journal of Public Health)

Normative-referenced values for health-related fitness among Czech youth: Physical fitness data from the study IPEN Adolescent Czech Republic
CONCLUSIONS: This study presents the most up-to-date sex- and age-specific normative-referenced percentile values for health-related fitness among Czech youth. Normative values may be useful for fitness and public health screening and surveillance, for example, by helping to identify youth with low fitness who might benefit from a fitness-enhancing intervention.PMID:38309706 | DOI:10.21101/cejph.a7645 (Source: Central European Journal of Public Health)

Prevalence of obesity and impact of socio-demographic factors on obesity in 15-19 years old adolescents in Vojvodina, Serbia
CONCLUSIONS: Obesity and abdominal obesity are highly prevalent in adolescents in Vojvodina, more in boys. Gender, community type and the level of the father's education were confirmed as significant factors that influenced both obesity and abdominal obesity. This study could help to customize health promotion policies for adolescents in Vojvodina.PMID:38309707 | DOI:10.21101/cejph.a7683 (Source: Central European Journal of Public Health)
