Aucubin promotes activation of AMPK and alleviates cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury in rats
Cell Stress Chaperones. 2023 Aug 22. doi: 10.1007/s12192-023-01372-7. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn the current investigation, we explored the benefits of aucubin against rodent ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) damages in brains and elucidated the role of 5'-AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) in its neuroprotective action. I/R model of brain was established in male three-month-old rats through 2 h of middle cerebral artery occlusion followed by two days of reperfusion. Aucubin boosted phosphorylation of AMPKα in ipsilateral cortex of injured rats. Then, rats were exposed to cerebral I/R damage and received treatment of aucu...

Tanshinone IIA protects mouse testes from heat stress injury by inhibiting apoptosis and TGF β1/Smad2/Smad3 signaling pathway
This study aims to construct a mouse testicular heat stress injury model and intervene with TSA. Various methods such as histopathology, high-throughput sequencing, bioinformatics analysis, and molecular biology were used to investigate whether TSA can alleviate heat stress-induced testicular injury and its mechanism. Results showed that heat stress significantly reduced the diameter of the mouse seminiferous tubules, increased cell apoptosis in the testicular tissue, and significantly decreased testosterone levels. After TSA intervention, testicular morphology and cell apoptosis improved significantly, and testosterone se...

Regulation of rat HspB5/alphaB-Crystallin by microRNAs miR-101a-3p, miR-140-5p, miR-330-5p, and miR-376b-3p
Cell Stress Chaperones. 2023 Aug 16. doi: 10.1007/s12192-023-01371-8. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHspB5/alphaB-crystallin is an ubiquitously expressed member of the small heat shock protein family which help cells to survive cellular stress conditions and are also implicated in neurodegenerative diseases. MicroRNAs are small non-coding RNAs fine-tuning protein expression mainly by inhibiting the translation of target genes. Our earlier finding of an increase in HspB5/alphaB-crystallin protein amount after heat shock in rat hippocampal neurons without a concomitant increase of mRNA prompted us to look for microRNAs as a p...

Genomic loss of the HSP70cA gene in the vertebrate lineage
Cell Stress Chaperones. 2023 Aug 17. doi: 10.1007/s12192-023-01370-9. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMetazoan 70 kDa heat shock protein (HSP70) genes have been classified into four lineages: cytosolic A (HSP70cA), cytosolic B (HSP70cB), endoplasmic reticulum (HSP70er), and mitochondria (HSP70m). Because previous studies have identified no HSP70cA genes in vertebrates, we hypothesized that this gene was lost on the evolutionary path to vertebrates. To test this hypothesis, the present study conducted a comprehensive database search followed by phylogenetic and synteny analyses. HSP70cA genes were found in invertebrates and i...
