Ventricular septal rupture complicating acute myocardial infarction: Incidence, treatment, and outcomes among medicare beneficiaries 1999 –2014
Abstract ObjectivesThe present study was designed to assess whether the incidence and outcomes of VSR‐AMI have changed in the era of timely primary PCI. BackgroundVentricular septal rupture (VSR) is a rare but frequently fatal complication of acute myocardial infarction (AMI). MethodsWe conducted a retrospective cohort study of all Medicare fee‐for‐service beneficiaries from 1999 to 2014 to examine trends in the incidence, surgical and percutaneous repair, and 30‐day and 1‐year mortality of VSR‐AMI. ResultsThe annual incidence of VSR‐AMI hospitalization declined by 41.6% from 197 patients per 100,000 AMIs in ...

Absorb bioresorbable vascular scaffold vs. everolimus ‐eluting metallic stent in small vessel disease: A propensity matched analysis of COMPARE II, RAI, and MAASSTAD‐ABSORB studies
ConclusionIn this propensity‐matched analysis pooling SVD patients of three large prospective studies, incidence of composite device‐related events was comparable between BVS and EES up to 2 years follow‐up. However, higher rates of stent thrombosis were found in the BVS group. (Source: Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions)

A prospective, multi ‐center study of the chocolate balloon in femoropopliteal peripheral artery disease: The Chocolate BAR registry
Abstract The Chocolate BAR study is a prospective multicenter post‐market registry designed to evaluate the safety and performance of the Chocolate percutaneous transluminal angioplasty balloon catheter in a broad population with symptomatic peripheral arterial disease. The primary endpoint is acute procedural success (defined as ≤30% residual stenosis without flow‐limiting dissection); secondary long‐term outcomes include freedom from target lesion revascularization (TLR), major unplanned amputation, survival, and patency. A total of 262 patients (290 femoropopliteal lesions) were enrolled at 30 US centers betwee...

Unexpected delayed complete atrioventricular block after Cardioband implantation
We present the case of an 80‐year‐old‐gentleman with prohibitive surgical risk, treated with Cardioband implantation for functional MR with an evident P1–P2 cleft and P2–P3 indentation, a relative contraindication to MitraClip implantation. We achieved procedural success with significative mitral annulus reduction (30% anteroposterior reduction from 37 to 26 mm) and MR reduction (from grade 4 to grade 1–2). A late onset Mobitz 2 AV block developed after 26 hr and evolved to complete AV block in the following day, requiring definitive biventricular pacemaker (PM). Less than 200 Cardioband implantatio...

Incidence, predictors and longer ‐term impact of troponin elevation following hybrid chronic total occlusion percutaneous coronary intervention
We examined the incidence of periprocedural cardiac enzyme rise (PCER) [troponin T (TnT) or high‐sensivity (hs)TnT>5× the upper limit of normal (ULN)] and periprocedural myocardial infarction (PMI), predictors of PCER and impact of PCER on the longer‐term major adverse cardiac events (MACE) following hybrid chronic total occlusion (CTO) percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). BackgroundPCER and PMI after CTO PCI, risk factors for PCER and its impact on longer‐term MACE are not fully understood. MethodsAmong 469 CTO PCI cases performed between 01/2010 and 12/2015, next‐day TnT or hsTnT was measured in 455...
