Intraplacental Choriocarcinoma in Twin Pregnancy Causing Fetomaternal Haemorrhage and Single Twin Demise: Case Report
Gestational choriocarcinoma is a rare aggressive form of gestational trophoblastic neoplasia. In cases of intraplacental choriocarcinoma, the tumour is confined to the placenta. Intraplacental choriocarcinoma in twin pregnancies is a very rare occurrence with less than 5 previously reported cases in the literature. In this case, a 34-year-old primiparous woman, pregnant with dichorionic diamniotic twins, underwent an emergency caesarean section for fetal distress at 35 weeks gestation after presenting in preterm labour. Twin A was delivered with no signs of life. The demise was attributed to fetomaternal haemorrhage (FMH) ...

The Benefit of Telemonitoring in the Prevention of Septic Shock in a Patient with Aggressive Non-Hodgkin ’s Lymphoma
We present a case report of a 69-year-old patient with aggressive non-Hodgkin lymphoma undergoing intensive immunochemotherapy. The treatment was complicated by two episodes of Gram-negative bacterial (G −) infection. During the first episode, the patient was admitted to the hospital only after developing septic shock with multiorgan dysfunction syndrome, which required vasopressor support and multiple broad-spectrum antibiotics and other antimicrobial therapy. Following this episode, the patient was enrolled in our telemonitoring project focusing on early detection of infections in high-risk haemato-oncological patients...

Treatment of Unresectable Cutaneous Squamous Cell Carcinoma with Cemiplimab in a Patient on Dialysis
Program death-1 inhibitors, a class of immune-checkpoint inhibitors, are now the standard of care in a variety of cancer settings, including cutaneous malignancies, such as melanomas, Merkel cell, and cutaneous squamous cell carcinomas (cSCCs). The clinical trials that led to the approval of the programmed death-1 inhibitor cemiplimab-rwlc (Libtayo®) for use in advanced cSCC excluded patients with autoimmune disease and those that required systemic immunosuppressive treatments, or had undergone solid-organ transplantation. Also, to be eligible, patients had to have adequate organ function. Here, we present the first repor...

Rapid Dissemination followed by Spontaneous Regression of Metastatic Hepatocellular Carcinoma after Liver Radiofrequency Thermal Ablation: A Case Report with Correlative Immune Assay
Rapid intrahepatic and distant metastasis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after locoregional treatment for early stage tumor is very rare. Descriptions of spontaneous regression of HCC exist in case reports, but its true mechanism is unclear. Here, we describe a case of rapid dissemination with lung metastasis shortly after localized RFA treatment of HCC liver lesions, followed by spontaneous, sustained regression of those lung lesions. We also show the detection of cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) specific to hepatitis B antigens by immune assay in this patient. We propose immune-related destruction as the basis for spont...

Cushing ’s Syndrome in Adenocarcinoma of Lung Responding to Osilodrostat
Cushing ’s syndrome (CS), secondary to paraneoplastic syndrome, is more commonly seen in small cell lung cancer but never before reported in epidermal growth factor receptor-mutated adenocarcinoma of the lung. Here, we present a case of a patient whose symptoms of hypokalemia, hypertension, and progressiv e abnormal glucose levels led to further workup that revealed adrenocorticotropic hormone-dependent hypercortisolism. Her cortisol levels dropped after 1 month of osilodrostat treatment, while lung cancer was treated with osimertinib. The use of osilodrostat in paraneoplastic CS has been previously reported in only 3 pa...

Two Very Rare Cases of Metastatic Thymic Carcinoma with Sjogren ’s Syndrome: A Case Series
Thymic tumours are rare thoracic malignancies with thymic carcinoma accounting for approximately 12% of all thymic tumours compared to thymomas which account for approximately 86%. Unlike thymomas, it is very rare for thymic carcinomas to be associated with autoimmune disorders or paraneoplastic syndromes. When these phenomena do occur, the vast majority are myasthenia gravis, pure red cell aplasia, or systemic lupus erythematous. Paraneoplastic Sjogren ’s syndrome is a rare complication of thymic carcinoma, with only two cases previously reported. Here we present 2 cases of patients with metastatic thymic carcinoma who ...

Androgen Deprivation Therapy for Intracranial Metastasis of a Salivary Duct Carcinoma: Case Report
We report the case of a 61-year-old male patient with SDC developing intracranial metastases. Unresponsive to radiotherapy and anti-HER/neu targeted therapy the intracranial metastases showed a very good partial remission to androgen deprivation therapy with goserelin acetate. This case demonstrates the potential of a highly targeted therapy with a relatively cheap and well-known drug in a patient with a rare disease without other good therapeutic options, which is a good example of modern, personalized medicine.Case Rep Oncol 2023;16:109 –115 (Source: Case Reports in Oncology)

Capsule Endoscopy-Based Diagnosis of Lung Squamous Cell Carcinoma Associated with Abdominal Pain and Metastasis to Small Intestine: A Case Report
In this report, we describe an extremely rare case of a lung squamous cell carcinoma that had metastasized to the small intestine and was associated with symptoms of abdominal pain. The patient underwent capsule endoscopy which detected an irregular mass in the distal ileum that was hemorrhagic, after which laparoscopic ileal resection and anastomosis in parallel with partial bladder resection were performed. Subsequent pathological biopsy confirmed that the intestinal mass was consistent with metastatic squamous cell carcinoma. With surgery and subsequent maintenance therapy with targeted drugs, the survival of the patien...

Pericardial Extramedullary Hematopoiesis Associated with Metastatic Adenocarcinoma of Gastrointestinal or Pancreaticobiliary Origin: A Case Report
We describe the first case of a patient who developed EMH in the pericardium secondary to metastatic gastrointestinal or pancreaticobiliary cancer. A 58-year-old man presented with recurrent episodes of fatigue and shortness of breath and was treated with thoracocentesis and pericardiocentesis for pleural and pericardial effusions, respectively. Owing to a markedly elevated alkaline phosphatase, a bone scan was performed and demonstrated diffuse sclerotic lesions. Evaluation of pleural effusion diagnosed metastatic adenocarcinoma, and cytospin morphology of the pericardial fluid demonstrated EMH. While EMH secondary to sol...

Primary Pleural Angiosarcoma Treated with Nivolumab and Ipilimumab: A Case Report
Primary pleural angiosarcoma (PPA) is a rare and clinically fatal pleural tumor originating from vascular endothelial cells. Herein, we presented the case of a 73-year-old man who was referred to our emergency room with complaints of right chest and back pain for a few days. Chest computed tomography revealed massive pleural effusion and a large mass in the right chest cavity. Thoracoscopic examination demonstrated a large hemorrhagic tumor on the parietal pleura whose pathological analysis indicated PPA. The patient received immunotherapy combined with nivolumab and ipilimumab. A cycle of nivolumab and ipilimumab improved...

Desmoid Tumor and Implant-Based Breast Reconstruction
We present a patient with a history of intraductal carcinoma of the left breast who underwent mastectomy with implant-based reconstruction who had a desmoid tumor of the breast detected during workup for cardiac transplantation for chemotherapy-induced heart failure. The tumor was originally thought to be recurrent breast cancer during workup with imaging obscured by the implant. Excisional biopsy demonstrated a desmoid tumor with a positive deep margin requiring rib resection, synthetic mesh, and pectoralis major flap reconstruction. Breast desmoid tumors are reactive malignancies that have been diagnosed after prior brea...
