Severe Hyponatremia Masking Central Diabetes Insipidus in a Patient with a Lung Adenocarcinoma
Altered natremia is a common electrolyte disorder in clinical practice and a paraneoplastic manifestation. The syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion is the first diagnostic suspicion in a patient with cancer and hyponatremia, although entities such as adrenal insufficiency primary or secondary to metastatic involvement must be taken into account. Likewise, immunorelated endrocrinopathies such as hypophysitis have been reported after the introduction of checkpoint inhibitors. A 46-year-old man diagnosed with metastatic adenocarcinoma of the lung with severe hyponatremia (111 mmol/L) consulted due to alter...

Genetic Analysis of a Family with Multiple Incidences of Prostate Cancer
A family with multiple members diagnosed with prostate cancer was identified, and genetic variants were analyzed. Three brothers were diagnosed with prostate cancer. Germline variants inBRCA1,BRCA2,TINF2, andCD19 were found through next-generation DNA sequencing using a hereditary cancer panel. TheBRCA1 G275D variant was present in patients, but absent in the healthy member. AnELAC2 variant was found in 1 patient. Several mutations were predicted to be deleterious by a set of computation programs. Multiple gene mutations might contribute to the overall predisposition to prostate cancer in the family. Even in cases with pot...

Clinical Utility of Liquid Biopsy to Identify Genomic Heterogeneity and Secondary Cancer Diagnoses: A Case Report
Liquid biopsy is a valuable tool in advanced and metastatic cancers for detection of genomic alterations in tumors that facilitate personalized targeted therapy approaches. Analyzing circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) using next-generation sequencing (NGS) provides an opportunity to detect tumor genomic changes during therapy and capture inter- and intra-heterogeneity of genomically divergent cancer cell evolution. Herein, we present a patient with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer, with progression to soft tissues, bone, and regional lymph nodes, who was treated with abiraterone plus prednisone, with excellent pr...

Spontaneous Regression of Metachronous Intra-Abdominal Desmoid Tumor in a Patient with Familial Adenomatous Polyposis
Desmoid tumors are clonal fibroblastic neoplasms that arise in soft tissues. Patients with familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) can develop intra-abdominal desmoid tumors. However, metachronous appearance of intra-abdominal desmoid tumor is rare, and its clinical course is not well known. Here, we report a case of spontaneous regression of metachronous intra-abdominal desmoid tumor in a 36-year-old man with FAP. The patient was diagnosed with FAP and underwent laparoscopic total colorectomy. Intra-abdominal desmoid tumor appeared 2 years later and progressed despite treatment with tamoxifen and sulindac. He received four c...

A Case Report of Post-Radiotherapy < b > < i > c-MYC < /i > < /b > -Positive Angiosarcoma of the Breast
We presented a classic case of c-MYC RIAS. c-MYC was reported to be positive in RIAS and other types of angiosarcomas. Clinical examination and early detection of RIAS breast angiosarcoma is vital to improving outcomes in these patients.Case Rep Oncol 2022;15:62 –70 (Source: Case Reports in Oncology)

Post-Immunotherapy Robotic-Assisted Resection for Primary Anorectal Melanoma: A Case Report
Anorectal malignant melanoma (AMM) is a rare and aggressive neoplasm. Here, we report a case of AMM that was treated with robotic-assisted abdominoperineal resection (APR) after immunotherapy. A 68-year-old Japanese woman presented at our hospital because of diagnosis AMM. Computed tomography revealed a mass in the lower anorectal region and enlarged perirectal lymph nodes, but showed no evidence of distant metastases. We determined that radical resection would be difficult; therefore, the patient received immunotherapy with pembrolizumab for nine cycles. The size of pararectal lymph nodes was reduced, and the patient subs...

Photoimmunotherapy for Managing Recurrent Laryngeal Cancer Cervical Lesions: A Case Report
We report our experience with PIT for head and neck cancer. A 76-year-old man with laryngeal cancer underwent radiation therapy and surgery. Skin involvement in the right submandibular region was subsequently noted. We diagnosed local recurrence and performed PIT for this lesion. Partial response was achieved after the first PIT session, and progressive disease was diagnosed after the second session. Many aspects of PIT remain unclear and should, therefore, be clarified in further research. Despite this uncertainty, PIT may become an effective treatment strategy for head and neck cancer if the patient selection criteria ar...

Combination of Reverse Shoulder Prosthesis, Elbow Prosthesis, and Polyetheretherketone: A Modified Total Humeral Replacement for Osteosarcoma Humerus Treatment
We present a patient who was diagnosed with osteosarcoma of the right humerus. The patient received 2 cycles of MAP chemotherapy (included: doxorubicin, cisplatin, and methotrexate) before surgery. He underwent radical resection of osteosarcoma and total humerus replacement with a modified total humeral material. The purpose of this improvement was to reduce the implant ’s weight and to improve postoperative recovery. Six months after the surgery, the weight-bearing ability of the patient’s shoulder within a wide range of movement has restored; the shoulder, elbow, and hand can move in a controlled way. Despite the sho...

Abnormal Exacerbation of Moderately Differentiated Gastric Adenocarcinoma in a Patient with TAFRO Syndrome: An Impaired Tumor Immunity?
We report a case of TAFRO syndrome accommodated by abnormal exacerbation of moderately differentiated gastric adenocarcinoma. The pathophysiology of TAFRO syndrome is largely unknown, but because the disease often responds to immunosuppressive therapy and also because T follicular helper (Tfh) cells are reported to be drastically decreased in TAFRO syndrome, involvement of a dysregulated immune system can be speculated. Growing evidence points toward a pivotal role of Tfh cells in tumor immunity through supporting ectopic lymphoid structures, which are recruitment sites for cells directly engaging in antitumor activity suc...

Sunitinib-Induced Adrenal Crisis in a Patient with Pre-Existing Immunotherapy-Related Hypopituitarism
We report a case in which a 71-year-old female experienced recurrent adrenal crises when managed with sunitinib for mRCC on a background of immune-related hypopituitarism and hypoadrenalism as a result of previous treatment with immunotherapy. Clinicians should be aware of this potential toxicity when using such medications and consider further investigation in the appropriate clinical setting.Case Rep Oncol 2022;15:1 –6 (Source: Case Reports in Oncology)
