Effects of short ‐term add‐on ezetimibe to statin treatment on expression of adipokines and inflammatory markers in diabetic and dyslipidemic patients
ConclusionShort‐term add‐on ezetimibe to simvastatin treatment suppressing effects on hypercholesterolemia and adiponectinemia is independent of the diabetes status. Resistin serum levels and leukocyte mRNA expression are influenced by add‐on ezetimibe to statin treatment. (Source: Cardiovascular Therapeutics)

Alamandine reverses hyperhomocysteinemia ‐induced vascular dysfunction via PKA‐dependent mechanisms
ConclusionThis study shows that alamandine is effective in reversing HHcy‐induced vascular dysfunction, possibly through the PKA signaling pathway via MrgD. Our results indicate a therapeutic potential of alamandine in reversing the detrimental effects of HHcy. (Source: Cardiovascular Therapeutics)

Long ‐term survival following the development of heart failure in an elderly hypertensive population
ConclusionsLong‐term survival in elderly HF patients is poor, especially in men. Mortality in HF patients increased progressively with advancing age, while allocation to the ACE inhibitor–based regimen for the initial trial significantly improved HF outcome. (Source: Cardiovascular Therapeutics)

Warfarin prescription in patients with non ‐valvular atrial fibrillation and one non‐gender related risk factor (CHA2DS2VASc 1 or 2): a treatment dilemma
ConclusionWe found an elevated risk of major bleeding and intracranial haemorrhage in AF individuals treated with warfarin with 1 NGR risk factor for stroke. These data call for caution when treating with warfarin these individuals. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved. (Source: Cardiovascular Therapeutics)

Effects of 12 weeks of treatment with intravenously administered bococizumab, a humanized monoclonal antibody blocking proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9, in hypercholesterolemic subjects on high ‐dose statin
ConclusionsThese studies demonstrated that bococizumab safely and effectively lowered LDL‐C in hypercholesterolemic subjects on high doses of statin. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved. (Source: Cardiovascular Therapeutics)

The relationship between knowledge, health literacy, and adherence among patients taking oral anticoagulants for stroke thromboprophylaxis in atrial fibrillation
ConclusionSignificant correlations between health literacy, OAC knowledge, and adherence were observed, and these relationships should to be considered by health professionals responsible for monitoring patients who are prescribed anticoagulants. We also observed serious gaps in OAC knowledge. Interventions designed to optimize the outcomes of anticoagulant treatment need to address these factors. (Source: Cardiovascular Therapeutics)

Pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of bococizumab, a monoclonal antibody to PCSK9, after single subcutaneous injection at three sites [NCT 02043301]
ConclusionsSimilar PK profiles and robust LDL‐C reductions were observed following a single 150‐mg s.c. injection of bococizumab administered to the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm in untreated subjects with LDL‐C ≥130 mg/dL. Bococizumab was generally well tolerated following a single 150‐mg s.c. administration in this subject population. (Source: Cardiovascular Therapeutics)

Iron Deficiency in Heart Failure: Efficacy and safety of intravenous iron therapy
ConclusionIV iron therapy improves symptoms, exercise capacity, and quality of life, at least in the short to intermediate time. However, there is still currently no standardised criteria used to define iron deficiency and the underlying mechanism of iron deficiency in CHF remains incompletely understood. Further work is required to improve the ability to identify iron deficiency in patients with CHF and evaluate the effect of iron repletion on hard end‐points including hospitalisation and mortality. This article is protected by copyright.
