Comparative Analysis of miRNA and EMT Markers in Metastatic Colorectal Cancer
Cancer Invest. 2023 Nov 20:1-11. doi: 10.1080/07357907.2023.2283495. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTColorectal cancer (CRC) is the fourth most commonly diagnosed malignant condition in the world. Micro RNAs (miRNAs) as well as epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT) play an important role in the pathogenesis of CRC. We performed a comparative analysis of the expression of selected miRNA genes and EMT markers in bioptic samples from patients (n = 45) with primary CRC or metastatic (m)CRC to the regional lymph node using reverse transcription-quantitative PCR and IHC staining. Results: Out of all miRNA analyzed, the miR-17...

Genomic Alterations of Signaling and DNA Damage Repair Pathways in Non-muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer
Cancer Invest. 2023 Nov 24:1-10. doi: 10.1080/07357907.2023.2288640. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe aim of the study was to demonstrate the most common genetic alterations and evaluate possible targets involving PIK3/AKT/mTOR signaling and DNA damage repair (DDR) pathways for personalized treatment in patients with NMIBC. Alterations of these pathways were observed in 89.5% and 100% of patients, respectively. Among them, BARD1 was more frequently altered in low/intermediate-risk cases, but PARP4 was more frequently affected in intermediate/high-risk patients. The possible target feasibility of BARD1 and PARP4 alteration...

Improving Cancer Patient Outcomes and Cost-Effectiveness: A Markov Simulation of Improved Early Detection, Side Effect Management, and Palliative Care
Cancer Invest. 2023 Nov 22:1-6. doi: 10.1080/07357907.2023.2287485. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWe employed a Markov model to simulate outcomes for a cohort of 1,000 hypothetical patients, comparing improvements in early detection, side effect management, and palliative care over a ten-year period. This model showed benefits in early detection and proactive health management, improving disease stability and reducing mortality rates. This protocol resulted in an 85.8% five-year survival rate, compared to 69.5% under standard protocol. Cost-effectiveness analysis showed significantly reduced costs and improved quality-adju...

Conceptualization of breast cancer and attitudes toward breast cancer screening: A qualitative study on Iranian and Australian women
CONCLUSION: Cultural and social factors influence women's perceptions of breast cancer and screening. Therefore, investigating the cultural meaning of breast cancer and breast cancer screening for women can be useful for screening and prevention purposes.PMID:37982678 | DOI:10.1080/07357907.2023.2283866 (Source: Cancer Investigation)

Variation of Plasma Damage-Associated Molecular Patterns in Patients with Advanced Solid Tumors After Standard of Care Systemic Treatment
CONCLUSIONS: Signals of ICD were not observed. S100A8 behaves as an inflammatory marker with decreased concentration after treatment, mostly in RECIST-responders. PFS and OS were significantly prolonged in those patients who experienced a decrease of S100A8 compared with those patients who experienced increase of plasma S100A8 at three months.PMID:37975838 | DOI:10.1080/07357907.2023.2283458 (Source: Cancer Investigation)
