Next ‐generation sequencing of liquid‐based cytology non–small cell lung cancer samples
CONCLUSIONSNSCLC mutation analysis using NGS can be successfully performed on residual cell pellets derived from LBC samples. This approach allows the simultaneous examination of multiple mutation hotspots in a timely manner to improve patient care. Cancer Cytopathol 2017. © 2017 American Cancer Society. Preoperative characteristics and cytological features of 136 histologically confirmed pancreatic mucinous cystic neoplasms
CONCLUSIONSTo the authors' knowledge, the current study is the largest series to date analyzing the cytological features of histologically confirmed MCN. Cytology is insensitive but very specific for detecting a HR MCN and outperformed imaging for the detection of HR MCN. Endoscopic ultrasound‐guided fine‐needle aspiration and cytology should be performed on any clinically suspected MCN that is being considered for conservative management. Clinical value of fully automated p16/Ki ‐67 dual staining in the triage of HPV‐positive women in the Norwegian Cervical Cancer Screening Program
CONCLUSIONSIn a population of HPV‐positive women, p16/Ki‐67 dual staining was more sensitive but less specific than cytology for predicting high‐grade CIN. The advantage of using both tests in different combinations is the potential for increasing the specificity or sensitivity in comparison with both methods performed individually. Filter paper ‐assisted cell transfer (FaCT) technique: A novel cell‐sampling technique for intraoperative diagnosis of central nervous system tumors
CONCLUSIONSThe current results suggest that the FaCT smear technique is a simple and effective processing method that has significant value for intraoperative diagnosis of CNS tumors. Cancer Cytopathol 2017. © 2017 American Cancer Society. (Source: Cancer Cytopathology)

FNA biopsy of secondary nonlymphomatous malignancies in salivary glands: A multi ‐institutional study of 184 cases
CONCLUSIONSSMSGs originate predominately from the head and neck and are more common in older men. Overall, the FNAB diagnosis of SMSG is accurate, but diagnostic challenges can be encountered, especially in SCC types of SMSG. Ancillary studies are needed for the definitive diagnosis of challenging cases. Cancer Cytopathol 2016. © 2016 American Cancer Society. (Source: Cancer Cytopathology)

Infections with multiple high ‐risk HPV types are associated with high‐grade and persistent low‐grade intraepithelial lesions of the cervix
CONCLUSIONSHigh‐risk mHPV infection identified patients with persistent LSIL/CIN1 and may to help identify patients at higher risk of disease progression to HSIL+/CIN2+. Longer follow‐up will clarify the role of mHPV testing in patient care. Cancer Cytopathol 2016. © 2016 American Cancer Society. (Source: Cancer Cytopathology)

Young investigator challenge: A novel, simple method for cell block preparation, implementation, and use over 2 years
CONCLUSIONSThe authors developed a novel method of cell block preparation that demonstrates improved histology and has increased the success rate of cell block production compared with the agarose method. Cancer Cytopathol 2016 © 2016 American Cancer Society. (Source: Cancer Cytopathology)
