KIS counteracts PTBP2 and regulates alternative exon usage in neurons
Elife. 2024 Apr 10;13:e96048. doi: 10.7554/eLife.96048. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAlternative RNA splicing is an essential and dynamic process in neuronal differentiation and synapse maturation, and dysregulation of this process has been associated with neurodegenerative diseases. Recent studies have revealed the importance of RNA-binding proteins in the regulation of neuronal splicing programs. However, the molecular mechanisms involved in the control of these splicing regulators are still unclear. Here we show that KIS, a kinase upregulated in the developmental brain, imposes a genome-wide alteration in exon usage du...

Thermal ablation with and without adjuvant systemic therapy: a nationwide multicenter observational cohort study of solitary colorectal liver metastases
CONCLUSIONS: For patients with plasma CEA >5 ug/L, T (III-IV) category of primary cancer, or clinical risk score (1-2), thermal ablation plus systemic therapy appeared to be associated with improved overall survival. Thermal ablation was equally effective in disease-free survival for treating solitary colorectal liver metastasis, whether with or without adjuvant systemic therapy.PMID:38597399 | DOI:10.1097/JS9.0000000000001397 (Source: Cancer Control)

Facile and Rapid Microcontact Printing of Additive-Free Polydimethylsiloxane for Biological Patterning Diversity
ACS Appl Mater Interfaces. 2024 Apr 10. doi: 10.1021/acsami.4c00460. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe development and application of micropatterning technology play a promising role in the manipulation of biological substances and the exploration of life sciences at the microscale. However, the universally adaptable micropatterning method with user-friendly properties for acceptance in routine laboratories remains scarce. Herein, a green, facile, and rapid microcontact printing method is reported for upgrading popularization and diversification of biological patterning. The three-step printing can achieve high simplicity ...

The epigenetic landscape in intestinal stem cells and its deregulation in colorectal cancer
Stem Cells. 2024 Apr 10:sxae027. doi: 10.1093/stmcls/sxae027. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEpigenetic mechanisms play a pivotal role in controlling gene expression and cellular plasticity in both normal physiology and pathophysiological conditions. These mechanisms are particularly important in the regulation of stem cell self-renewal and differentiation, both in embryonic development and within adult tissues. A prime example of this finely tuned epigenetic control is observed in the gastrointestinal lining, where the small intestine undergoes renewal approximately every 3-5 days. How various epigenetic mechanisms modulat...

"Decoding inflammation: glycoprotein a repetition predominant, microRNA-142-3-p, and metastasis associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1: as novel inflammatory biomarkers of inflammatory bowel disease"
CONCLUSIONS: Dysregulation of GARP, MALAT1, and miR-142-3p likely contributes to inflammation in IBD by reducing TGF-β. MALAT1 is linked to smoking and age-related changes. These genes have potential as diagnostic markers or therapeutic targets for personalized IBD treatment.PMID:38598005 | DOI:10.1007/s11033-024-09475-9 (Source: Cancer Control)

Effect of RARC-ERAS nursing program on clinical outcomes in patients undergoing RARC surgery: a retrospective, propensity matching study
J Robot Surg. 2024 Apr 10;18(1):170. doi: 10.1007/s11701-024-01931-9.ABSTRACTCurrently, there is no specific perioperative nursing standard for RARC based on the ERAS concept. This retrospective study investigates to analyze the effect of RARC-ERAS nursing program on VTE and other clinical outcomes in patients undergoing RARC surgery. This retrospective study included 216 patients undergoing RARC surgery From January 1, 2022 to December 30, 2023, and propensity score adjustment analysis was applied. The study compares a control group receiving traditional nursing and an observation group receiving RARC-ERAS nursing program...

Combined supplementation with hesperidin, phytosterols and curcumin decreases adiposity and improves metabolic health in ovariectomized rats
Food Funct. 2024 Apr 10. doi: 10.1039/d3fo05122f. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn recent years many women have looked for alternative therapies to address menopause. Hesperidin, phytosterols and curcumin are bioactive compounds that can ameliorate some cardiovascular risk factors associated with menopause, although there are no data concerning the effects of their combined supplementation. We used ovariectomized (OVX) rats, a postmenopausal model with oestrogen deficiency, to evaluate whether supplementation with a multi-ingredient (MI) including hesperidin, phytosterols and curcumin for 57 days would display beneficial e...

Extracorporeal Shockwave for Intermittent Claudication and Quality of Life: A Randomized Clinical Trial
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: To our knowledge, this is the first double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized clinical trial to consider extracorporeal shockwave therapy for the management of intermittent claudication. It demonstrated efficacy for walking distances, may have a positive effect on quality of life, and may provide a safe, noninvasive alternative therapy for patients with intermittent claudication.TRIAL REGISTRATION: ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT02652078.PMID:38598227 | DOI:10.1001/jamasurg.2024.0625 (Source: Cancer Control)
