Blood pressure, calcium channel blockers, and the risk of prostate cancer: a Mendelian randomization study
ConclusionThe results of our study did not support a causal relationship between SBP and prostate cancer; however, we found weak evidence of a protective effect of high SBP on aggressive prostate cancer and we found that blocking calcium channel receptors may increase prostate cancer risk. Barriers and facilitators to effective cervical cancer screening in Belize: a qualitative analysis
ConclusionDespite free, publicly available cervical cancer screening in Belize, complex barriers affect access and completion of management when abnormal screening tests are identified. Provider workload, education outreach, and additional funding for training and facilities are potential areas for strengthening this program and increasing detection and management for cervical cancer control. Enhancing the utilization of healthy living interventions among cancer survivors in historically underserved populations and communities
ConclusionStrategically tailoring community resources for cancer survivors can provide a more robust network of support to promote healthy eating and active living in this population. This work informed community implementation of evidence-based health interventions in Acres Homes and may support future projects aiming to enhance community-led cancer prevention efforts in historically underserved communities. “We’re always an afterthought”- Designing tobacco control campaigns for dissemination with and to LGBTQ +—serving community organizations: a thematic analysis
ConclusionsWe offer a set of considerations to support collaborative design and dissemination of health communication campaigns to organizations serving LGBTQ  + communities: (1) develop campaigns with and for LGBTQ + populations, (2) attend to the broader structural forces impacting campaign recipients, (3) support in-house testing and adaptations, and (4) increase access to granular data for community organizations. Identifying the effective behaviour change techniques in nutrition and physical activity interventions for the treatment of overweight/obesity in post-treatment breast cancer survivors: a systematic review
ConclusionThe present systematic review identified the components of theory-based nutrition and physical activity behaviour change interventions that may be beneficial for the treatment of overweight/obesity in breast cancer survivors. The strategies mentioned, in addition to reported behavioural models and BCTs, should be considered when developing weight-loss interventions for breast cancer survivors. Engaging stakeholders in the use of an interactive simulation tool to support decision-making about the implementation of colorectal cancer screening interventions
ConclusionDiverse decision-makers found the simulation tool to be most useful for supporting early implementation phases, especially decidingwhich EBI(s) to implement. To increase the tool ’s utility, providing detailed guidance onhow to implement the selected EBIs, and the extent to which users can expect similar CRC screening gains in their contexts, should be prioritized. “Did I get into the twilight zone somehow?”: sexual and gender minority cancer caregiver experiences during COVID
ConclusionOur data suggest SGM caregivers experience additional burdens to cancer caregiving when compared to cishet peers. Although SGM and cishet caregivers reported challenges stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, challenges appeared greater and more acute for SGM caregivers. Pandemic-related findings point to overall gaps in SGM cancer caregiver supports that may be remedied by additional research and targeted intervention development. (Source: Cancer Causes and Control)

Breast Cancer Champions: a peer-to-peer education and mobile mammography program improving breast cancer screening rates for women of African heritage
ConclusionBCC successes could be attributed to pivoting to online community building when in-person events were restricted and enabling Champions to design and conduct their own events, which increased outreach possibilities. We demonstrate improved screening outcomes associated with an updated peer-to-peer education program. (Source: Cancer Causes and Control)

Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on cancer patients in western Pennsylvania: rural –urban disparities
ConclusionsThe extent to which perceptions of the threat of COVD-19 to personal health and vaccine hesitancy exacerbates rural –urban disparities in cancer care and prognosis warrants further study. Cancer patients may be vulnerable to heightened anxiety and distress triggered by the pandemic. (Source: Cancer Causes and Control)

Disparities in incidence and trends of colorectal, lung, female breast, and cervical cancers among non-Hispanic American Indian and Alaska Native people, 1999 –2018
ConclusionThis study highlights disparities in screening-amenable cancers between NH-AI/AN and NHW people. Culturally informed, community-based interventions that increase access to preventive health services could reduce cancer disparities among AI/AN people. (Source: Cancer Causes and Control)

Effect of rurality and travel distance on contralateral prophylactic mastectomy for unilateral breast cancer
ConclusionThe impact of travel distance on likelihood of CPM varies by patient rurality and receipt of reconstruction. Further research is needed to understand how patient residence, travel burden, and geographic access to comprehensive cancer care services, including reconstruction, influence patient decisions regarding surgery. Lessons learned in the practice of community-based participatory research with community partner collaboration in study design and implementation: the community scientist model
AbstractEngagement of community participation is an innovative driver of modern research. However, to benefit the communities being studied, it is imperative to continuously evaluate ethical considerations, the relationship dynamic between researchers and community members, and the responsiveness of research teams to the needs and preferences of communities. Northwestern University ’s Center for Health Equity Transformation founded a community scientist program in 2018 that implemented a study using the Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) model. This project is an ongoing study of heavy metal exposure by geogra...
