Evaluation of the Genotoxic and Histological Effects in Neotropical Fish Prochilodus Lacustris (Pisces, Prochilodontidae) in Conservation Area of the Brazilian Northeast
Bull Environ Contam Toxicol. 2023 Nov 28;112(1):4. doi: 10.1007/s00128-023-03837-y.ABSTRACTHuman activities significantly impact the aquatic biota in lacustrine environments, leading to negative environmental consequences. Due to this, this study was carried out to evaluate the genotoxic and histological biomarkers in the gills and kidneys of Prochilodus lacustris. The collection of fish and water was conducted in three distinct stations (S1, S2, S3) in an international protected area in northeast Brazil. The histological alterations index was used to assess changes in the gills and kidneys at a histological level. In addi...

In Vivo Toxicity of Industrial Biocide Containing 2,2-Dibromo-3-nitrilopropionamide in Adult and Zebrafish Larvae
This study aimed to investigate the in vivo toxicity of DBNPA in zebrafish (Danio rerio), a model organism in environmental toxicology. Both adult and larval zebrafish were exposed to varying concentrations of DBNPA, and significant morphological changes and mortality rates were observed. The study found that even relatively low concentrations of DBNPA can have detrimental effects on zebrafish embryonic development, and high concentrations resulted in rapid mortality in adult zebrafish and larvae. The LC50 values calculated from this study were 9.3 ppm for adults and 9.1 ppm for larvae, indicating the high toxicity of DBNP...

Ethylparaben Toxicity on Cladocerans Daphnia Similis and Ceriodaphnia Silvestrii and Species Sensitivity Analysis
Bull Environ Contam Toxicol. 2023 Nov 28;112(1):3. doi: 10.1007/s00128-023-03832-3.ABSTRACTParabens, a group of preservatives with a wide industrial range, threaten human and aquatic biota health due to their toxicity and endocrine disruption potential. As conventional wastewater treatment may not be enough to keep natural environments safe, toxicity studies are useful tools for supporting ecological risk assessments. Here, we focused on assessing ethylparaben's, one of the most common kinds of paraben, toxicity in the cladocerans Daphnia similis and Ceriodaphnia silvestrii. The EC50 sensitivity for D. similis and C. silve...

An Investigation of Heavy Metal Concentrations in the Sera of Cattle Grazed in Different Locations in the Kars Province of T ürkiye
Bull Environ Contam Toxicol. 2023 Nov 28;112(1):1. doi: 10.1007/s00128-023-03821-6.ABSTRACTThe aim of this study was to investigate the effects of exposure of cattle to low levels of environmental pollution on trace metal metabolism. The assessment of heavy metal concentrations in blood samples is essential to evaluate the potential effects of pollutants on cattle production and to measure the uptake of pollutants by animals. For this purpose, cattle raised in villages at varying distances to the center of the Kars province were sampled for blood, and heavy metal concentrations were measured in the extracted sera. In total...
