Depression, anxiety and stress among female student-athletes: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: Coaches, trainers and clinicians are key contributors in supporting female student-athlete mental health, with responsibilities for integrating mental skill training, sleep hygiene education and regular assessments. Comprehensive mental health and tailored education programmes considering determinants such as injury, health and social factors specific to female student-athletes are needed to enhance mental health equity in sport.PROSPERO REGISTRATION NUMBER: CRD42022362163.PMID:38233087 | DOI:10.1136/bjsports-2023-107328 (Source: British Journal of Sports Medicine)

Causes of sudden cardiac arrest and death and the diagnostic yield of sport preparticipation screening in children
CONCLUSIONS: In children aged 8-15 years, the incidence of SCA/D and the yield of PPS for identifying at-risk CVD were both substantially higher in those ≥12 years, suggesting that systematic PPS may be more useful beyond this age.PMID:38233088 | DOI:10.1136/bjsports-2023-107357 (Source: British Journal of Sports Medicine)

Use of extracorporeal shockwave therapies for athletes and physically active individuals: a systematic review
CONCLUSION: ESWT may offer an efficacious treatment alone or as an adjunct to concurrent exercise therapy in selected sports-related injuries and without major adverse events. Further high-level research is needed to better define the role and clinical outcomes of ESWT.PMID:38228375 | DOI:10.1136/bjsports-2023-107567 (Source: British Journal of Sports Medicine)

Focus areas and methodological characteristics of North American-based health disparity research in sports medicine: a scoping review
CONCLUSION: Health disparity research relevant to SEM in North America is limited. The overall volume and breadth of research required to identify patterns in a heterogeneous sports landscape, which can then be used to inform positive change, need expansion. Intentional research focused on assessing the intersectionality, causes and consequences of health disparities in SEM is necessary.PMID:38216322 | DOI:10.1136/bjsports-2023-107607 (Source: British Journal of Sports Medicine)

Coaches of youth field sports as delivery agents of injury prevention programmes: how are we training the trainers? A scoping review
CONCLUSION: CE that occurs on 1 day (one time-point) is most popular for preparing coaches as delivery agents of IPPs in youth field sports. While recognising pragmatic barriers, more expansive in-service training, support and feedback may enhance the effective implementation of IPPs.TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER: https://doi.org/10.17605/OSF.IO/FMHGD.PMID:38216323 | DOI:10.1136/bjsports-2023-106934 (Source: British Journal of Sports Medicine)

If we build it together, will they use it? A mixed-methods study evaluating the implementation of Prep-to-Play PRO: an injury prevention programme for women's elite Australian Football
CONCLUSION: The Prep-to-Play PRO injury prevention programme for the AFLW achieved high implementation, possibly due to the programme's deliberately flexible approach coupled with our pragmatic definition of implementation. Engaging key stakeholders at multiple ecological levels (organisation, coaches, athletes) throughout programme development and implementation likely enhanced programme implementation.PMID:38216324 | DOI:10.1136/bjsports-2023-107518 (Source: British Journal of Sports Medicine)

Lack of leisure time physical activity and variations in cardiovascular mortality across US communities: a comprehensive county-level analysis (2011-2019)
CONCLUSIONS: Our study reveals a robust association between the high prevalence of no LTPA and elevated AACVM rates beyond other social determinants. The most at-risk groups were middle-aged women and elderly non-Hispanic black individuals. Further, county-level characteristics accounted for substantial variance in community LTPA rates. These results emphasise the need for targeted public health measures to boost physical activity, especially in high-risk communities, to reduce AACVM.PMID:38212043 | DOI:10.1136/bjsports-2023-107220 (Source: British Journal of Sports Medicine)

Clinical and exercise professional opinion on designing a postpartum return-to-running training programme: an international Delphi study and consensus statement
This study aims to establish expert consensus recommendations on designing and modifying a postpartum return-to-running training programme, highlight costs and access to qualified professionals as potential barriers and discuss clinical, research and sports policy implications.A three-round Delphi survey of clinical and exercise professionals working with postpartum runners was conducted. Round I consisted of open-ended questions related to designing the training plan, modifications based on biopsychosocial factors, key muscle groups to train and referral and payment sources.
