Gender minorities in breast cancer - Clinical trials enrollment disparities: Focus on male, transgender and gender diverse patients
CONCLUSIONS: We confirmed that gender minorities are severely underrepresented among BC registration trials. We observed a lower rate of men in trials envisaging endocrine manipulation or in less contemporary trials. This work sought to urge the scientific community to increase the awareness level towards the issue of gender minorities and to endorse more inclusive criteria in clinical trials.PMID:38493590 | DOI:10.1016/j.breast.2024.103713 (Source: Breast)

Platinum chemotherapy for early triple-negative breast cancer
CONCLUSIONS: Platinum-based chemotherapy using carboplatin in the adjuvant or neoadjuvant setting improves long-term outcomes of DFS and OS in early TNBC, with no evidence of differences by subgroup. This was at the cost of more frequent chemotherapy delays and dose reductions, and greater haematological toxicity. These findings support the use of platinum-based chemotherapy for people with early TNBC.PMID:38492276 | DOI:10.1016/j.breast.2024.103712 (Source: Breast)

Accuracy of sentinel lymph node biopsy in male breast cancer: Systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: SLNB for male breast cancer, following negative preoperative axillary assessment and primary surgery, appears feasible, consistent, and effective. Our research supports conducting immediate SLNB histological evaluation to facilitate prompt ALND in case of positive results.PMID:38461570 | PMC:PMC10940173 | DOI:10.1016/j.breast.2024.103703 (Source: Breast)

Skin perfusion and oxygen saturation after mastectomy and radiation therapy in breast cancer patients
Breast. 2024 Mar 6;75:103704. doi: 10.1016/j.breast.2024.103704. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe pathophysiological mechanism behind complications associated with postmastectomy radiotherapy (PMRT) and subsequent implant-based breast reconstruction are not completely understood. The aim of this study was to examine if there is a relationship between PMRT and microvascular perfusion and saturation in the skin after mastectomy and assess if there is impaired responsiveness to a topically applied vasodilator (Methyl nicotinate - MN). Skin microvascular perfusion and oxygenation >2 years after PMRT were measured using whi...

Patients' and doctors' views and experiences of the patient safety trajectory of breast cancer care
CONCLUSION: This is the first study to assess patients' and doctors' patient safety views and medical error/negligence claims experiences in breast cancer care in Ireland. Experience of medical error/negligence claims had long-lasting implications for both groups. Doctors were concerned about a multitude of errors and causative factors. Failure to embed these findings is a missed opportunity to improve safety.PMID:38460442 | DOI:10.1016/j.breast.2024.103699 (Source: Breast)

Predictors of re-attendance at biennial screening mammography following a false positive referral: A study among women in the south of the Netherlands
CONCLUSION: Women with a FP referral are less likely to re-attend the screening programme if this referral occurs at their first screening round or when they undergo invasive diagnostic workup. Hospitals and screening organizations should prioritize informing women about the importance of re-attending the programme following a FP referral.PMID:38447293 | DOI:10.1016/j.breast.2024.103702 (Source: Breast)
