Efficacy relevance of PD-L1 expression on circulating tumor cells in metastatic breast cancer patients treated with anti-PD-1 immunotherapy
ConclusionOur findings suggested that PD-L1 expression on CTCs could predict the therapeutic response and clinical outcomes, providing a valuable predictive and prognostic biomarker for patients treated with anti-PD-1 immunotherapy. (Source: Breast Cancer Research and Treatment)

Plasma ESR1 mutations and outcome to first-line paclitaxel and bevacizumab in patients with advanced ER-positive/HER2-negative breast cancer
ConclusionsPresence ofESR1 mutations in baseline ctDNA might not be associated with inferior PFS and OS in advanced breast cancer patients treated with paclitaxel/bevacizumab. (Source: Breast Cancer Research and Treatment)

The relationship between anxiety and vaginal-related sexual health in postmenopausal breast cancer survivors on aromatase inhibitors therapies: a cross sectional study
ConclusionAmong postmenopausal breast cancer survivors on aromatase inhibitors therapies, anxiety was significantly associated with vaginal-related sexual health problems. As treatments for sexual health problems are limited, results suggest that psychosocial interventions for anxiety could potentially be adapted to simultaneously address sexual health needs. Vessel size as a marker of survival in estrogen receptor positive breast cancer
ConclusionAlpha-SMA/CD34 dual-IHC staining revealed breast cancer heterogeneity regarding vessel size, vessel density, and perivascular a-SMA status. Large vessel size was linked to shorter survival in ER  + breast cancer. (Source: Breast Cancer Research and Treatment)

A prospective cohort study of clinical characteristics and outcomes in Chinese patients with estrogen receptor-negative/progesterone receptor-positive early breast cancer
ConclusionER −/PR+ tumors have more aggressive pathological characteristics and more unfavorable clinical features than ER+ tumors. ET can reduce the LRR and mortality rates in ER−/PR+ patients. Postmenopausal and age ≥ 55 years ER−/PR+ patients can benefit from ET. (Source: Breast Cancer Research and Treatment)

Current practice and provision of oncoplastic breast-conserving surgery in the UK: results of the ANTHEM national practice questionnaire
ConclusionsOPBCS is widely available in the UK but contraindications and approaches to contralateral symmetrisation were variable. Work is now needed to prospectively evaluate the outcomes of OPBCS vs mastectomy  ± IBR to support informed decision-making. (Source: Breast Cancer Research and Treatment)

Women with metastatic breast cancer don't just follow step-count trends, they exceed them: an exploratory study
ConclusionWomen with MBC benefited from the Nurse AMIE for Amazon Echo Show intervention. Despite improvements over time (>  20%), we cannot conclude that the intervention significantly enhanced participants' daily step counts. Larger studies using virtual assistant technologies are required, and this study should be considered a first step in this direction. (Source: Breast Cancer Research and Treatment)

Quantification of subtype purity in Luminal A breast cancer predicts clinical characteristics and survival
ConclusionBulk sampling for genomic analyses provides an opportunity to expose intratumor heterogeneity, as reflected by subtype admixture. Our results elucidate the striking extent of diversity among LumA cancers and suggest that determining the extent and type of admixture holds promise for refining individualized therapy. LumA cancers with a high degree of basal admixture appear to have distinct biological characteristics that warrant further study. (Source: Breast Cancer Research and Treatment)

Monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio as predictor of cancer therapy-related cardiotoxicity in patients with breast cancer: a pilot cohort study
ConclusionIn patients with breast cancer, elevated pre-treatment inflammatory markers were associated with increased risk of cardiotoxicity. Among these markers, MLR had good discriminatory performance and high negative predictive value. The incorporation of MLR might improve risk evaluation and selection of patients for follow-up during cancer therapy. (Source: Breast Cancer Research and Treatment)

Palliative care utilization and racial and ethnic disparities among women with de novo metastatic breast cancer in the United States
ConclusionsFewer than 25% of women with MBC received palliative care between 2010 and 2017. While palliative care has significantly increased for all racial/ethnic groups, Hispanic White, Black, and Asian/Pacific Islander women with MBC still receive significantly less palliative care than non-Hispanic White women. Further research is needed to identify the socioeconomic and cultural barriers to palliative care utilization. (Source: Breast Cancer Research and Treatment)

PAM50 intrinsic subtypes, risk of recurrence score and breast cancer survival in HIV-positive and HIV-negative patients —a South African cohort study
ConclusionAggressive tumour biology was common in our cohort. HIV infection, PAM50 HER2-enriched,basal-like intrinsic subtypes and high ROR score were associated with poor overall and disease-free survival. HIV infection impacted survival in patients with luminal subtypes only. (Source: Breast Cancer Research and Treatment)

Breast cancer treatment receipt and the role of financial stress, health literacy, and numeracy among diverse breast cancer survivors
ConclusionIn this diverse population of breast cancer survivors, rates of treatment initiation were high. Worry about paying medical bills and financial strain were frequent, especially among non-White participants. Although we observed associations of financial strain with treatment initiation, because few women declined treatments, understanding the scope of impact is limited. Our results highlight the importance of assessments of resource needs and allocation of support for breast cancer survivors. Novelty of this work includes the granular measures of financial strain and inclusion of health literacy and numeracy. (Sou...

Clinical significance of microinvasive breast cancer across the different subtypes and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2  expression levels
ConclusionHER2 overexpression was significantly associated with adverse clinicopathologic parameters and increased local recurrence risk in MiBC. Therefore, more understanding of the clinical behavior of HER2 in MiBC will enable tailoring of adjuvant therapy for these patients. (Source: Breast Cancer Research and Treatment)
