Does cognitive learning potential measured with the dynamic Wisconsin Card Sorting Test predict rehabilitation outcome in elderly patients post-stroke?
CONCLUSIONS: Cognitive learning potential, measured with the dWCST has no added value in predicting rehabilitation outcome in elderly patients post-stroke. ADL independence at admission was the only significant predictor of rehabilitation outcome.REGISTRATION NUMBER NETHERLANDS TRIAL REGISTER: Trial NL7947.PMID:38406989 | DOI:10.1080/02699052.2024.2309257 (Source: Brain Injury)

Non-pharmacological interventions for sleep disruptions and fatigue after traumatic brain injury: a scoping review
CONCLUSION: While this scoping review has utility in describing existing non-pharmacological approaches to manage sleep and fatigue after TBI, the findings suggest that interventions are often developed without considering TBI individuals' source of motivation and the need for support in self-administration. Future studies may achieve greater sustainability by considering the evolving needs of TBI patients and their families and the drivers and barriers that might influence non-pharmacological intervention use at home.PMID:38402580 | DOI:10.1080/02699052.2024.2318599 (Source: Brain Injury)

Co-existence of depression and post-concussion syndrome one month after mild traumatic brain injury
CONCLUSION: Among patients with PCS 1 month after mTBI, those with depression are more likely to present with initial sadness and with an associated injury.PMID:38385558 | DOI:10.1080/02699052.2024.2311338 (Source: Brain Injury)

Accelerated long-term forgetting in patients with acquired brain injury
The objective of this retrospective study was to investigate ALF in patients with an acquired brain injury (ABI) and to associate memory performance with executive functions.METHODS: Verbal memory performance (short-term recall, 30-min recall, 1-week recall) was assessed in 34 adult patients with ABI and compared to a healthy control group (n = 54) using an auditory word learning and memory test.RESULTS: Repeated measure analysis showed significant effects of time and group as well as interaction effects between time and group regarding recall and recognition performance. Patients with ABI had a significantly impaired 1-we...

Long-term burden of informal caregiver 7-years after severe childhood traumatic brain injury in the traumatisme grave de l'Enfant (TGE) study
CONCLUSION: Significant PFC-reported burden 7-years post-injury was associated with overall disability and 'subjective' PFC-rated outcomes. Factors influencing parental burden in the long term should be identified and psychological support implemented over time.PMID:38379310 | DOI:10.1080/02699052.2024.2318588 (Source: Brain Injury)

Feasibility of overground exoskeleton gait training during inpatient rehabilitation after severe acquired brain injury
CONCLUSION: OEGT incorporated into the rehabilitation plan of care during inpatient rehabilitation after severe ABI was observed to be safe, feasible, and tolerable. However, intentional steps must be taken to facilitate patient safety.PMID:38369861 | DOI:10.1080/02699052.2024.2317259 (Source: Brain Injury)

Collegiate student-athletes concussion knowledge and attitudes: what a difference a decade Makes
CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study show a modest increase in concussion knowledge; however, large improvements in concussion attitudes were observed between groups. These results suggest a continued improvement in student-athlete concussion awareness and provide specific areas to continue addressing persistent misconceptions.PMID:38369869 | DOI:10.1080/02699052.2024.2314549 (Source: Brain Injury)
