The relationship between mid-upper arm circumference and blood pressure in Walter Sisulu University community
Blood Press. 2024 Dec;33(1):2296904. doi: 10.1080/08037051.2023.2296904. Epub 2024 Jan 22.ABSTRACTPrevalence of hypertension is increasing to higher levels in South Africa. Anthropometric measures for obesity are well known to predict the development of hypertension. However, the relationship between mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) and blood pressure (BP) is scant in South African communities such as universities. Therefore, this study was aimed at investigating the correlation between MUAC and BP among the community of Walter Sisulu University (WSU). A total of 230 participants from WSU (students and staff members), 11...

Cuffless Blood Pressure in clinical practice: challenges, opportunities and current limits
Conclusion: The emergence of these new technologies shifts the paradigm of cardiovascular health management, presenting a new possibility for non-invasive continuous and dynamic monitoring. The concept of cuffless blood pressure measurement is viable and more finely tuned devices are expected to enter the market, which could redefine our understanding of blood pressure and hypertension.PMID:38245864 | DOI:10.1080/08037051.2024.2304190 (Source: Blood Pressure)

Factors associated with progression of arterial stiffness in ischemic stroke survivors: the Norwegian Stroke in the Young Study
CONCLUSION: In ischemic stroke survivors participating in the NOR-SYS study, the 5-year increase in cf-PWV did not differ between genders and was associated with higher systolic 24hBP and lack of antihypertensive treatment.PMID:38185939 | DOI:10.1080/08037051.2023.2298308 (Source: Blood Pressure)

The impact of prediabetes and diabetes on endothelial function in a large population-based cohort
CONCLUSION: In a population free from CVD, vascular endothelial dysfunction was primarily associated with manifest diabetes, but not with prediabetes, implying that finger ED may develop when diabetes is established, rather than being an early sign of glucose intolerance. Further research is needed to explore whether addressing glucose intolerance could potentially delay or prevent vascular ED onset.PMID:38185988 | DOI:10.1080/08037051.2023.2298309 (Source: Blood Pressure)
