Suture techniques during laparoscopic and robot ‐assisted partial nephrectomy: a systematic review and quantitative synthesis of peri‐operative outcomes
ConclusionsRenorrhaphy techniques significantly evolved over the years, improving outcomes. Running suture, particularly using barbed wires, shortened the operating and ischaemia times. A further advantage could derive from avoiding a double ‐layer suture. (Source: BJU International)

Experts vs super ‐experts: differences in automated performance metrics and clinical outcomes for robot‐assisted radical prostatectomy
ConclusionWe found that experts and super ‐experts differed significantly in select APMs for the four cardinal steps of RARP, indicating that surgeons do continue to improve in performance even after achieving expertise. We hope ultimately to identify associations between APMs and clinical outcomes to tailor interventions to surgeons and optimize patient outcomes. (Source: BJU International)

Impact of ureteral stent removal by string on patient's quality of life and complications at post ‐ureteroscopy for urolithiasis: a controlled trial
ConclusionUreteral stent removal by string after ureteroscopy significantly provides less pain than those by cystoscope for male patients. There were no increased complications in terms of UTI or accidental dislodgement in the string group. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved. (Source: BJU International)

Obesity, risk of biochemical recurrence, and prostate ‐specific antigen doubling time after radical prostatectomy: results from the SEARCH database
ConclusionWhile we confirmed that higher BMI was associated with BCR, we found no link between BMI and PSADT at the time of recurrence. Our data suggest obese men do not have more aggressive recurrences. Future studies are needed to test whether obesity predicts response to salvage therapies. (Source: BJU International)

Initial outcomes of local anaesthetic freehand transperineal biopsies in the outpatient setting
ConclusionsFreehand TP biopsies using the PrecisionPoint access system is a safe, tolerable and effective method for systematic and targeted biopsies under LA in the outpatient setting. It has replaced transrectal biopsies in our centre and has potential to transform practice. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved. (Source: BJU International)

The Performance Improvement (Pi) score: an algorithm to objectively score performance improvement during E ‐BLUS hands on training (HoT) sessions. An ESUT project
ConclusionOur study demonstrated that evaluation of Performance improvement is highly variable, even when formulated by a cohort of experts. Our algorithm successfully provided an objective score that equals the average Pi assessment of a cohort of experts, in relation to a small amount of training attempts. This article is protected by copyright. Characterising potential bone scan overuse amongst men treated with radical prostatectomy
ConclusionWe found a substantial rate of bone scan utilisation after RP. The majority were performed for PSA levels of<1 ng/mL where the likelihood of a positive test is low. More judicious use of imaging appears warranted in the post ‐RP setting. (Source: BJU International)

A clinical prediction tool to determine the need for concurrent systematic sampling at the time of MRI ‐guided biopsy
ConclusionWe found that omitting concurrent systematic biopsy in men undergoing TRUS/MRI fusion guided biopsy would miss significant disease in more than one in ten patients. We propose a prediction model with good discriminative ability that can be used to improve patient selection for performing concurrent systematic biopsy in order to minimize the number of missed significant cancers. It is important that our model is validated in external cohorts before being employed in routine clinical practice. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved. Prospective assessment of urinary neutrophil gelatinase ‐associated lipoprotein in living kidney donors: toward understanding differences between chronic kidney diseases of surgical and medical origin
ConclusionAcute kidney injury due to hyperfiltration of remnant kidney after donor nephrectomy was maximal within 1 –2 days postoperatively. The rise in uNGAL during this period in donors was negatively correlated with postoperative sCr levels. Decreased renal function after nephrectomy differs from that of medical CKD.
