Development of highly sensitive dual-enhanced fluorescence quenching immunochromatographic test strips based on Pt nanoprobes
Biosens Bioelectron. 2024 Mar 6;254:116195. doi: 10.1016/j.bios.2024.116195. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe fluorescence-quenching method is crucial in vitro analysis, particularly for immunochromatographic test strips (ICTs) using noble metal nanoparticles as probes. However, ICTs still fall short in meeting the requirements for the detection of traces biomarkers due to the noble metal nanoparticles can only quench fluorescence of the dyes within a confined distance. Interestingly, noble metal nanoparticles, such as Pt NPs cannot only perform fluorescence-quenching ability based on the Förster resonance energy transfe...

Biosens Bioelectron. 2024 Mar 5;254:116193. doi: 10.1016/j.bios.2024.116193. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHerein, a new electrochemiluminescence (ECL) biosensor was constructed with highly efficient polymerized carbon dots (PCDs) as ECL emitter and the improved localized catalytic hairpin assembly (L-CHA) as signal amplifier for ultrasensitive detection of microRNA-222 (miRNA-222). Impressively, compared to the traditional carbon dots with inefficient blue region ECL emission, PCDs with N, O co-dope and large conjugated π-system showed high electrical conductivity, narrow band gap and strong radiative transition, which c...

One-step construction of multiplexed enzymatic biosensors using light-addressable electrochemistry on a single silicon photoelectrode
Biosens Bioelectron. 2024 Mar 6;253:116194. doi: 10.1016/j.bios.2024.116194. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe multiplexed detection of metabolites in parallel within a single biosensor plate is sufficiently valuable but also challenging. Herein, we combine the inherent light addressability of silicon with the high selectivity of enzymes, for the construction of multiplexed photoelectrochemical enzymatic biosensors. To conduct a stable electrochemistry and reagentless biosensing on silicon, a new strategy involving the immobilization of both redox mediators and enzymes using an amide bond-based hydrogel membrane was propos...

Ultrasimple size encoded microfluidic chip for rapid simultaneous multiplex detection of DNA sequences
In this study, an ultrasimple size encoding method is proposed for multiplex detection using a wedge-shaped microfluidic chip. Driving by negative pressure, microparticles are naturally arranged in distinct stripes based on their sizes within the chip. This size encoding method demonstrates a high level of precision, allowing for accuracy in distinguishing 3-5 sizes of microparticles with a remarkable accuracy rate of up to 99%, even the microparticles with a size difference as small as 0.5 μm. The entire size encoding process is completed in less than 5 min, making it ultrasimple, reliable, and easy to operate. To evalua...

Development of a point-of-care colorimetric metabolomic sensor platform
Biosens Bioelectron. 2024 Mar 4;253:116186. doi: 10.1016/j.bios.2024.116186. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMetabolomics is the large-scale study of small molecule metabolites within a biological system. It has applications in measuring dietary intake, predicting heart disease risk, and diagnosing cancer. Metabolites are often measured using high-end analytical tools such as mass spectrometers or large spectrophotometers. However, due to their size, cost, and need for skilled operators, using such equipment at the bedside is not practical. To address this issue, we have developed a low-cost, portable, optical color sensor p...

Electrochemical DNA-based sensors for measuring cell-generated forces
Biosens Bioelectron. 2024 Mar 1;253:116185. doi: 10.1016/j.bios.2024.116185. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMechanical forces play an important role in cellular communication and signaling. We developed in this study novel electrochemical DNA-based force sensors for measuring cell-generated adhesion forces. Two types of DNA probes, i.e., tension gauge tether and DNA hairpin, were constructed on the surface of a smartphone-based electrochemical device to detect piconewton-scale cellular forces at tunable levels. Upon experiencing cellular tension, the unfolding of DNA probes induces the separation of redox reporters from the...

Biosens Bioelectron. 2024 Feb 22;253:116161. doi: 10.1016/j.bios.2024.116161. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWe herein describe a novel electrochemical strategy to detect hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) by utilizing the peroxidase-mimicking activity of cerium oxide nanoparticles (CeO2 NP) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO). Particularly, CeO2 NP/rGO nanocomposites were deposited on the commercial electrode by a very convenient and direct electrochemical reduction of graphene oxide. Due to the peroxidase-mimicking activity of CeO2 NP and the outstanding electrochemical properties of reduced graphene oxide, the reduction current of H2...
