Therapeutic Effects of Tretinoin and Caffeine-Treated Bone Marrow-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cell on Immunological Features of Ulcerative Colitis: An Animal Model Study
CONCLUSION: MSC therapy is an effective option for UC and can prevent disease progression. The results represented a high developmental rate and simple cell application of MSC therapy in UC patients. Also, MSC therapy's ability for immunomodulation is strengthened by drugs that improve their microenvironment by binding to their receptors.PMID:38525396 | PMC:PMC10958723 | DOI:10.4103/abr.abr_173_23 (Source: Biomed Res)

The Effect of Dextrose Hypotonic vs Saline Hydration on Methotrexate-Induced Nephrotoxicity in Male and Female Rats
CONCLUSION: Based on the findings of this study, hydration with N/S was superior to DW5% for the prevention from HDMTX-induced nephrotoxicity. Besides, we found insignificant differences between male versus female rats in response to the hydration for HDMTX-induced renoprotection; however, females probably benefit more.PMID:38525397 | PMC:PMC10958733 | DOI:10.4103/abr.abr_269_22 (Source: Biomed Res)

The Application of Artificial Intelligence and Drug Repositioning for the Identification of Fibroblast Growth Factor Receptor Inhibitors: A Review
Adv Biomed Res. 2024 Jan 30;13:9. doi: 10.4103/abr.abr_170_23. eCollection 2024.ABSTRACTArtificial intelligence talks about modeling intelligent behavior through a computer with the least human involvement. Drug repositioning techniques based on artificial intelligence accelerate the research process and decrease the cost of experimental studies. Dysregulation of fibroblast growth factor (FGF) receptors as the tyrosine kinase family of receptors plays a vital role in a wide range of malignancies. Because of their functional significance, they were considered promising drug targets for the therapy of various cancers. This r...

Quality of Life in Patients with Phenylketonuria: A Systematic Review
This article reviews current researches on the impact of PKU on QoL. The review examines factors that may influence QoL, such as age, metabolic control, and treatment adherence. In this systematic review study, relevant articles were identified using a search strategy built with the keywords phenylketonuria, PKU, or hyperphenylalaninemia (or their synonyms) and QoL in Web of Science, Scopus, and PubMed databases. After identifying the articles, duplicates, reviews, scientific abstracts, articles published in languages other than English, and non relevant studies were excluded. The search strategy identified 951 records fro...

Co-Occurrence Analysis of COVID-19 Publications with an Emphasis on the Global Health Governance (GHG)
CONCLUSION: The global approach of studies related to COVID-19 is more inclined to the epidemiological and public health fields. Assuming the GHG, detailed and comprehensive planning should be performed to strengthen these studies and pave the way for international cooperation, determining research requisites, and developing applied research studies.PMID:38525400 | PMC:PMC10958719 | DOI:10.4103/abr.abr_344_23 (Source: Biomed Res)

Effect of Combined Application of Hydrofluoric and Phosphoric Acids and Active Irrigation with a Microbrush on Shear Bond Strength of Lithium Disilicate Ceramics to Enamel
CONCLUSION: The application of PA in addition to 5% HF acid caused no significant change in the SBS of LDS ceramic to enamel. However, AI with a microbrush significantly increased the SBS.PMID:38525401 | PMC:PMC10958724 | DOI:10.4103/abr.abr_181_23 (Source: Biomed Res)

A Rare Case of Klippel Trenaunay Syndrome with Von Willebrand Factor Deficiency and Multiple Accessory Spleens: A Case Report and Brief Literature Review
We present a 13-year-old son with a typical clinical manifestation of KTS, including "port-wine stains" as capillary malformation, venous malformation, and hypertrophy of the left lower extremity, who also suffers from von Willebrand Disease type 3. He has been suffering from these two rare conditions since birth. The occurrence of KTS with von Willebrand Factor deficiency in a patient has so far not been reported, which may propose a mutation in the putative common regulatory gene that caused this uncommon phenotype.PMID:38525403 | PMC:PMC10958732 | DOI:10.4103/abr.abr_232_23 (Source: Biomed Res)

Burden of Antibiotic Resistance at Wolaita Sodo University Comprehensive Specialized Hospital
CONCLUSION: S. aureus and E. coli were found to be the most prevalent pathogenic isolates among gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, respectively. Most of the isolated pathogens showed high resistance towards the commonly prescribed antibiotic agents. The overall antibiotic resistance in this study was 57.7%, and the overall MDR prevalence was 72.2%.PMID:38525432 | PMC:PMC10960649 | DOI:10.1155/2022/7272024 (Source: Biomed Res)

Photocurable extracellular matrix sealant for cessation of venous hemorrhage
J Biomed Mater Res B Appl Biomater. 2024 Apr;112(4):e35401. doi: 10.1002/jbm.b.35401.ABSTRACTHemorrhage is the second leading cause of death in patients under 46 years of age in the United States. Cessation of hemorrhage prevents hemorrhagic shock and tissue hypoxia. Controlling the bleed via direct pressure or tourniquet is often the first line of defense, but long-term care requires staples, hemostatic agents, or sealants that seal the vessel and restore blood flow. Here, we compare a new photocurable extracellular matrix sealant (pcECM) with low, medium, and high crosslink density formulations to a commercially availabl...
