The bidirectional associations between caregiver and child symptoms in the parent-led treatment stepping together for children after trauma
CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that caregivers and children can impact each other's responses to a parent-led child trauma-focused treatment. Notably, children with caregivers who were less affected by their own emotional reactions exhibited greater improvement in both PTS and depression. Supporting the caregivers may benefit both children and caregivers.CLINICAL TRIAL REGISTRATION: ClinicalTrials.gov NCT04073862; https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT04073862.PMID:38128401 | DOI:10.1016/j.brat.2023.104459 (Source: Behaviour Research and Therapy)

Effectiveness of behavioral activation and mindfulness in increasing reward sensitivity and reducing depressive symptoms - A randomized controlled trial
Behav Res Ther. 2023 Dec 13;173:104455. doi: 10.1016/j.brat.2023.104455. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTReward insensitivity is a potential key mechanism regarding the maintenance of depression. However, there is a lack of research examining and comparing the effectiveness of different psychological interventions in modifying reward insensitivity. This four-arm randomized controlled trial (RCT) investigated a two-week online intervention. After screening for eligibility, a total of 336 participants were randomized, and 224 participated per-protocol. Participants were assigned to either a) behavioral activation, b) mindfulne...

Effects of positive and negative affect inductions on interpretive and response bias
Behav Res Ther. 2023 Dec 13;173:104460. doi: 10.1016/j.brat.2023.104460. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAffective states and interpretations of ambiguous stimuli are inherently related constructs, although effects of induced affective states on interpretive and response biases have not been comprehensively explored. The present study examined the relationship between induced affective states and interpretive and response bias in a sample of 189 undergraduates. Participants completed an online study in which they were randomized into one of two mood induction conditions and subsequently completed an interpretive bias task. R...

Exposure and response prevention versus stress management training for adults and adolescents with obsessive compulsive disorder: A randomized clinical trial
CONCLUSION: A single ERP protocol is superior to SMT in treating both adolescents and adults with OCD. OCD-specific therapy is necessary across the lifespan for optimal outcomes in this highly disabling disorder, though non-specific treatments like SMT are still all-too-commonly provided.PMID:38103359 | DOI:10.1016/j.brat.2023.104458 (Source: Behaviour Research and Therapy)

Momentary impulsivity interferes with emotion regulation strategy prioritization in everyday life in remitted depression
CONCLUSION: ER strategy prioritization mediated the within-person relationship between greater impulsivity and lower ER success. Interventions focused on training individuals to selectively prioritize ER strategies may improve ER success, particularly when individuals are feeling more impulsive than usual.PMID:38103360 | DOI:10.1016/j.brat.2023.104424 (Source: Behaviour Research and Therapy)

Diversity in emotion regulation strategy use: Resilience against posttraumatic stress disorder
This study examined the prospective relation between ER diversity and PTSD, while accounting for negative and positive life events, in interpersonal violence (IPV) survivors. IPV-exposed women with PTSD onset (PTSD; n = 22), without PTSD onset (IPV; n = 37), and non-traumatized control participants (NTC; n = 41) rated their ER strategy use and experience of negative and positive life events. The ER diversity index differentiated the participant groups. Importantly, group differences in ER diversity depended on the experience of life events. When experiencing fewer positive life events and more negative life events, the IPV...

Itsy bitsy spider: Fear and avoidance (generalization) in a free-exploratory virtual reality paradigm
In conclusion, we confirmed the expected positive linear relationship between spider fear and (generalization of) fear and avoidance behaviors. Our results suggest that our free-exploratory VR avoidance paradigm is well-suited to investigate avoidance behaviors and the generalization of avoidance.PMID:38086158 | DOI:10.1016/j.brat.2023.104442 (Source: Behaviour Research and Therapy)
