Behav Res Ther. 2022 Nov 13;160:104228. doi: 10.1016/j.brat.2022.104228. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOnline self-help programs such as the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) Guide address significant barriers to receiving therapy but suffer from low adherence rates. Peer-delivered coaching, using undergraduate students as coaches, is an innovative alternative to traditional coaching methods which may improve adherence in a more scalable format. To test the efficacy of peer-support coaching for college students using ACT Guide in a naturalistic setting, we conducted a pragmatic randomized controlled trial with three ...

Reduction of costly safety behaviors after extinction with a generalization stimulus is determined by individual differences in generalization rules
Behav Res Ther. 2022 Nov 18;160:104233. doi: 10.1016/j.brat.2022.104233. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTExposure-based treatment involves repeated presentation of feared stimuli or situations in the absence of perceived threat (i.e., extinction learning). However, the stimulus or situation of fear acquisition (CS+) is highly unlikely to be replicated and presented during treatment. Thereby, stimuli that resemble the CS+ (generalization stimuli; GSs) are typically presented. Preliminary evidence suggests that depending on how one generalizes fear (i.e., different generalization rules), presenting the same GS in extinction le...

Efficacy and mechanisms of change in exposure-based and cognitive stand-alone body image interventions in women with overweight and obesity
CONCLUSIONS: Both types of interventions might be effective in the reduction of self-reported body dissatisfaction and interview-based shape concerns in overweight and obesity. However, as different mechanisms drive the effects, future research should clarify which individual might best benefit from which intervention.PMID:36435148 | DOI:10.1016/j.brat.2022.104210 (Source: Behaviour Research and Therapy)
