Developing an interpretation bias modification training task for alleviating loneliness in young people
CONCLUSIONS: Interpretation biases relevant to youth loneliness may be modifiable, and CBM-I training could reduce feelings of loneliness. This informs psychological models of loneliness, and the development of CBM-I interventions targeting loneliness in young people.PMID:37541156 | DOI:10.1016/j.brat.2023.104380 (Source: Behaviour Research and Therapy)

Mechanisms of change in digital cognitive behavioral therapy for depression in patients with chronic back pain: A mediation analysis of a multicenter randomized clinical trial
CONCLUSIONS: The results suggest a relevant role of pain self-efficacy and pain-related disability as change processes in the treatment of depression for patients with CBP in routine care. However, further research is needed to disclose potential reciprocal relationships of mediators, and to extend and specify our knowledge of the mechanisms of change in digital CBT for depression.PMID:37531807 | DOI:10.1016/j.brat.2023.104369 (Source: Behaviour Research and Therapy)

Advances in the adaptation and implementation of evidence-based interventions for historically marginalized groups
Behav Res Ther. 2023 Jul 21;168:104377. doi: 10.1016/j.brat.2023.104377. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThis collection of six articles showcases innovative approaches to adapting and deploying evidence-based interventions with individuals from historically marginalized groups to advance mental health equity. The field of cultural adaptation has matured beyond initial questions about whether specific culturally adapted interventions work, and must now adopt designs that can yield generalizable knowledge concerning how and under what circumstances such adaptations can promote improved engagement and effectiveness with unders...

Interoception in functional motor symptoms and functional seizures: Preliminary evidence of intact accuracy alongside reduced insight and altered sensibility
Behav Res Ther. 2023 Jul 25;168:104379. doi: 10.1016/j.brat.2023.104379. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAltered interoception may be a pathophysiological mechanism in functional neurological disorder (FND). However, findings have been inconsistent across interoceptive dimensions in FND including functional motor symptoms (FMS) and seizures (FS). Here, individuals with FMS/FS (n = 17) and healthy controls (HC, n = 17) completed measures of interoceptive accuracy and insight (adapted heartbeat tracking task [HTT] with confidence ratings), a time estimation control task (TET) and the Multidimensional Assessment of Interoceptiv...

Anxiety disorders in children and adolescents: A summary and overview of the literature
Behav Res Ther. 2023 Jul 20;168:104376. doi: 10.1016/j.brat.2023.104376. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTConsiderable work has advanced understanding of the nature, causes, management, and prevention of anxiety disorders in children and adolescents over the past 30 years. Prior to this time the primary focus was on school refusal and specific phobias. It is now recognised that children and adolescents experience the full gamut of anxiety disorders in very similar ways to adults and that anxiety disorders in the paediatric years can predict a lifelong mental-health struggle. Given the vast array of specific studies in this fi...

The impact of module dosage on treatment response in a modular transdiagnostic intervention for sleep and circadian dysfunction (TranS-C)
This study evaluated module delivery of the Transdiagnostic Intervention for Sleep and Circadian Dysfunction (TranS-C) and its impact on patient outcomes. Adults (N = 108) with serious mental illness and sleep and circadian dysfunction treated in a community setting were randomized to receive TranS-C plus usual care, or 6 months of usual care followed by delayed treatment with TranS-C. Data from both conditions were combined to maximize power. These secondary analyses tested whether the "dosage" of module delivery (defined as the proportion of total sessions in which a module was delivered) predicted treatment response, me...
