Using experience sampling methodology (ESM) to improve our understanding of day-to-day intrusion frequency and related distress in survivors of trauma
CONCLUSIONS: The findings demonstrate that day-to-day fluctuations in trauma related perceptions and sequelae are significant and should be explored alongside broader individual differences to advance our understanding of the development, maintenance, and treatment of PTSD.PMID:37944379 | DOI:10.1016/j.jbtep.2023.101921 (Source: Behavior Therapy)

Efficacy and acceptability of a self-guided internet-delivered cognitive-behavioral educational program for obsessive-compulsive symptoms with international recruitment
Cogn Behav Ther. 2023 Nov 9:1-19. doi: 10.1080/16506073.2023.2279492. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCognitive-behavioural therapy is an effective treatment for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). However, there are many barriers in accessing this treatment, with stigma being a particularly prominent barrier for many patients. Self-guided internet-delivered cognitive-behavioural therapy (ICBT), which does not require any contact with a therapist, has the potential to overcome this barrier. However, there is limited research on the efficacy of self-guided ICBT for OCD. The aim of the current study was to examine the efficac...

Evaluating the interactive impact of acculturative stress and anxiety sensitivity on behavioral health outcomes among Latinx during a period of high COVID-19 impact
Cogn Behav Ther. 2023 Nov 6:1-18. doi: 10.1080/16506073.2023.2273794. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAs a multi-systemic disease, COVID-19 infection engendered a rise in co-occurring mental and physical health symptoms, particularly affecting the Latinx population. The current work sought to evaluate the main and interactive influence of acculturative stress and anxiety sensitivity in terms of mental and physical health symptoms among 181 Latinx persons (30.4% female, Mage = 34.1 years, SD = 8.20). Data were collected during a period of high COVID-19 impact (2020-2021) and analyses included five separate, two-step hierarchi...

Reliability (or lack thereof) of smartphone ecological momentary assessment of visual dot probe attention bias toward threat indices
CONCLUSIONS: Future research should strive to examine attention bias paradigms beyond the dot-probe task that evidenced meaningful test-retest reliability properties in laboratory and real-world naturalistic settings.PMID:37907019 | DOI:10.1016/j.jbtep.2023.101918 (Source: Behavior Therapy)

Virtual reality exposure with vibrotactile stimulation for the treatment of fear of flying: A pilot study
CONCLUSIONS: Vibrotactile cues enhanced the sense of presence. However, the addition of vibrotactile stimulation did not have a consistent effect on anxiety experienced during exposure. Therefore, the benefits of incorporating vibrotactile cues in virtual reality environments for exposure therapy are not clear.PMID:37862878 | DOI:10.1016/j.jbtep.2023.101915 (Source: Behavior Therapy)

A Systematic Review of the Use of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to Treat Adult Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
Behav Ther. 2023 Nov;54(6):1006-1019. doi: 10.1016/j.beth.2022.02.009. Epub 2023 Jun 2.ABSTRACTThe present review aims to critically evaluate available literature on the use of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) to treat adult obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and to draw conclusions about using ACT to reduce OCD symptoms in adults with OCD. Databases (PsycINFO, PsycARTICLES, MEDLINE, and PubMed), Google Scholar, and article references were used to identify relevant studies through October 10, 2020. This review includes both peer-reviewed, published articles (n = 15) and unpublished theses and dissertations (n = 2) ...

A Process-Based Analysis of Cognitive Defusion in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
Behav Ther. 2023 Nov;54(6):1020-1035. doi: 10.1016/j.beth.2022.06.003. Epub 2022 Jun 23.ABSTRACTCognitive defusion is among the main components of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), a contextual behavioral approach to psychotherapy. Defusion serves as a middle-level term, and, as such, may be useful for applying and disseminating behavior science, despite its lower precision. However, some authors argue that for middle-level terms in psychotherapy to be useful to clinicians, they need to be clearly linked to basic behavioral concepts, with higher precision; and that this is not currently the case with defusion. Our o...
