Identification of Plasma Exosomes hsa_circ_0001360 and hsa_circ_0000038 as Key Biomarkers of Coronary Heart Disease
CONCLUSION: The circRNA/lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA interaction network might help to elucidate the pathogenesis of CHD. Hsa_circ_0001360 combined with hsa_circ_0000038 might be an important diagnostic biomarker.PMID:38566808 | PMC:PMC10987246 | DOI:10.1155/2024/5557143 (Source: Atherosclerosis)

Incidence and Outcomes of Posterior Circulation Involvement in Moyamoya Disease
CONCLUSIONS: PCA disease involvement in MMD is associated with higher rates of ischemic perioperative complications and worsened functional outcomes, likely due to reduced collateral flow. Ten-year progression of PCA disease is highly likely and should be monitored throughout follow-up; future studies will assess the impact of PCA disease progression on long-term outcomes.PMID:38567531 | DOI:10.1161/STROKEAHA.123.044693 (Source: Atherosclerosis)

An Increase in Vascular Stiffness is Positively Associated with Mitochondrial Bioenergetics Impairment of Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells in the Elderly Population
This study aimed to investigate the relationship between CAVI values and mitochondrial bioenergetics of PBMCs in the elderly population. This cross-sectional study enrolled participants from the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) between 2017 and 2018. 1640 participants with an ankle-brachial index greater than 0.9 were included in this study. All participants were stratified into three groups based on their CAVI values as high (CAVI ≥9), moderate (9 >CAVI ≥8), and low (CAVI <8), in which each group comprised 702, 507 and 431 participants, respectively. The extracellular flux analyzer was used to...

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, Insulin Resistance, and Cardiovascular Disease
Curr Cardiol Rep. 2024 Apr 3. doi: 10.1007/s11886-024-02050-5. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPURPOSE OF REVIEW: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a prevalent endocrine disorder in women of reproductive age. It has been associated with metabolic, reproductive, and psychiatric disorders. Despite its association with insulin resistance (IR) and cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors, the association between PCOS and CVD outcomes has been conflicting. This review reports the updated evidence between PCOS, insulin resistance, and CVD events.RECENT FINDINGS: IR is highly prevalent occurring in 50 to 95% of general and obese...

Effects of repeated weight cycling on non-alcoholic steatohepatitis in diet-induced obese mice
FASEB J. 2024 Apr 15;38(7):e23579. doi: 10.1096/fj.202400167R.ABSTRACTLifestyle interventions remain the treatment of choice for patients with obesity and metabolic complications, yet are difficult to maintain and often lead to cycles of weight loss and regain (weight cycling). Literature on weight cycling remains controversial and we therefore investigated the association between weight cycling and metabolic complications using preexistent obese mice. Ldlr-/-.Leiden mice received a high-fat diet (HFD) for 20 weeks to induce obesity. Subsequently, weight-cycled mice were switched between the healthy chow diet and HFD for f...

MaiJiTong granule attenuates atherosclerosis by reducing ferroptosis via activating STAT6-mediated inhibition of DMT1 and SOCS1/p53 pathways in LDLR(-/-) mice
CONCLUSION: STAT6 acts as a negative regulator of ferroptosis and atherosclerosis via transcriptionally suppressing DMT1 and SOCS1 expression and MJT attenuates atherosclerosis and ferroptosis by activating the STAT6-mediated inhibition of DMT1 and SOCS1/p53 pathways, which indicated that STAT6 acts a novel promising therapeutic target to ameliorate atherosclerosis by inhibiting ferroptosis and MJT can serve as a new therapy for atherosclerosis treatment.PMID:38569295 | DOI:10.1016/j.phymed.2024.155489 (Source: Atherosclerosis)

Tracking of serum lipid levels from childhood to adulthood: Systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Early-life lipid measurements are important for predicting adult levels. However, further research is needed to understand the tracking of non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and the stability of risk classification over time, which may further inform pediatric lipid screening and assessment strategies.PMID:38569384 | DOI:10.1016/j.atherosclerosis.2024.117482 (Source: Atherosclerosis)

Elevated Lp(a): Guidance for Identifying and Managing Patients
South Med J. 2024 Apr;117(4):208-213. doi: 10.14423/SMJ.0000000000001675.ABSTRACTLipoprotein(a) (Lp(a)) is a unique low-density lipoprotein-like lipoprotein that is considered an independent and causal risk factor for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) and calcific aortic valve stenosis. The Lp(a) molecule also contains apolipoprotein A and apolipoprotein B, which collectively promote atherosclerosis, thrombosis, and inflammation. Lp(a) is highly genetic and minimally responsive to nonpharmacological measures. Lp(a) serum levels ≥125 nmol/L are associated with increased ASCVD risk, but this threshold has not ...

Obicetrapib as an Adjunct to Stable Statin Therapy in Japanese Subjects: Results from a Randomized Phase 2 Trial
CONCLUSIONS: All doses of obicetrapib taken as an adjunct to stable statin therapy significantly lowered atherogenic lipoprotein lipid parameters, showed near complete elimination of drug by 4 weeks, and were safe and well tolerated in a Japanese population, similar to previous studies of obicetrapib conducted in predominantly Caucasian participants.PMID:38569868 | DOI:10.5551/jat.64828 (Source: Atherosclerosis)

Aerobic exercise attenuates dysautonomia, cardiac diastolic dysfunctions, and hemodynamic overload in female mice with atherosclerosis
Sci Rep. 2024 Apr 3;14(1):7835. doi: 10.1038/s41598-024-52883-x.ABSTRACTCardiovascular risk increases during the aging process in women with atherosclerosis and exercise training is a strategy for management of cardiac risks in at-risk populations. Therefore, the aims of this study were to evaluate: (1) the influence of the aging process on cardiac function, hemodynamics, cardiovascular autonomic modulation, and baroreflex sensitivity in females with atherosclerosis at the onset of reproductive senescence; and (2) the impact of exercise training on age-related dysfunctions in this model. Eighteen Apolipoprotein-E knockout ...
