Addiction, Traumatic Loss, and Guilt: A Case Study Resolving Grief through Psychodrama and Sociometric Connections
This article outlines four types of sociometric processes for cultivating connections between group members – the spectrogram, step-in sociometry, locograms, and floor checks. These experiential sociometry tools can be used independently as group processes or as a structured warm-up to a psychodrama enactment. A scene from a psychodramatic vignette is offered depicting a case study of a client working through complicated grief in an addictions group psychotherapy context. Sociometric and psychodramatic theoretical considerations are presented in the context of short practice depictions presented throughout this article. ...

Musical encounters on the borderline. Patterns of mutuality in musical improvisations with Borderline Personality Disorder
This study focused on intersubjective relatedness with clients with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) within the field of Music Therapy. Clinical improvisation is increasingly recognized as a mean to develop or re-live patterns of mutuality, and by mutuality we mean the emergence of a polyphonic flow founded on the forces that constantly makes us balance between dependency and independency. Recent research addresses how people with BPD relate to others in Music Therapy. What is currently lacking is a detailed tracking of mutual aspects of the musical modality emerging in music therapy improvisations. This paper details...

Dancing to Projective Identification in Dance Movement Therapy for Couples (DMT-C)
Publication date: Available online 27 November 2019Source: The Arts in PsychotherapyAuthor(s): Einat Shuper-EngelhardAbstractProjective identification influences the behavior of couples in an unconscious way, in a process that may likely sustain destructive and difficult-to-discover-and-resolve conflicts. In projection, non-verbal messages in the couple relationship are interpreted through sensorimotor systems involved in perception. The present research study examines how, and in which areas, awareness of somatic and kinesthetic processes in therapy induces recognition of projection and identification in relations. Nine c...

Positive Psychodrama: A Framework for Practice and Research
This article introduces positive psychodrama as a framework for practice and research that builds on a sustainable and growing body of research indicating that a complete notion of mental health consists not only of the absence of mental illness symptoms but also the presence of mental health indicators. I address the question of how does psychodrama look through the lens of positive psychology. After an overview of psychodrama background and research, positive concepts in J. L. Moreno’s psychodrama theory and philosophy are revisited and linked to contemporary positive psychology literature. Empirically-supported positi...
