An amino acid motif in HLA ‐DRβ1 distinguishes patients with uveitis in juvenile idiopathic arthritis
ConclusionOur findings highlight a genetically distinct, sexually‐dimorphic feature of JIA‐uveitis compared to non‐uveitis JIA. The association indicates the potential involvement for antigen presentation by HLA‐DRβ1 in the development of uveitis in JIA. This work will advance our progress towards treating and preventing sight‐threatening complications of uveitis in children with JIA.This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved. Dysbiotic subgingival microbial communities in periodontally healthy patients with rheumatoid arthritis
ConclusionsOur data demonstrates that the oral microbiome in RA is enriched for inflammophilic and citrulline producing organisms, which may play a role in the production of autoantigenic citrullinated peptides in RA.This article is protected by copyright. Association Between Marginal Jawbone Loss and Onset of Rheumatoid Arthritis and Relationship to Plasma Levels of RANKL
ConclusionMarginal jawbone loss preceded the clinical onset of RA symptoms, but this was observed only in nonsmokers. Moreover, marginal jawbone loss was significantly greater in RANKL‐positive presymptomatic subjects compared with RANKL‐negative presymptomatic subjects and was highest in presymptomatic subjects positive for both ACPA and RANKL. Chikungunya Arthritis Mechanisms in the Americas
ConclusionThis is one of the largest observational studies involving analysis of the synovial fluid of chikungunya arthritis patients. Synovial fluid analysis revealed no detectable chikungunya virus. This finding suggests that chikungunya virus may cause arthritis through induction of potential host autoimmunity, suggesting a role for immunomodulating agents in the treatment of chikungunya arthritis, or that low‐level viral persistence exists in synovial tissue only and is undetectable in synovial fluid. Increased Expression and Modulated Regulatory Activity of Coinhibitory Receptors PD ‐1, TIGIT, and TIM‐3 in Lymphocytes From Patients With Systemic Sclerosis
ConclusionThe altered expression and regulatory capacity of co‐IRs in SSc lymphocytes may contribute to disease pathophysiology by modulating the cytokine‐mediated cross‐talk of immune cells and fibroblasts at sites of inflammation and/or fibrosis. (Source: Arthritis and Rheumatism)

Effects of HLA –B27 on Gut Microbiota in Experimental Spondyloarthritis Implicate an Ecological Model of Dysbiosis
ConclusionThe effects of HLA–B27 on gut microbiota and dysbiosis in SpA are highly dependent on the host genetic background and/or environment, despite convergence of dysregulated immune pathways. These results implicate an ecological model of dysbiosis, with the effects of multiple microbes contributing to the aberrant immune response, rather than a single or small number of microbes driving pathogenesis. Frequency of Chronic Joint Pain Following Chikungunya Virus Infection
ConclusionThis is the first report to describe the frequency of chikungunya virus–related arthritis in the Americas after a 20‐month follow‐up. The high frequency of chronic disease highlights the need for the development of prevention and treatment methods. (Source: Arthritis and Rheumatism)

Antibody Responses to Citrullinated and Noncitrullinated Antigens in the Sputum of Subjects With Rheumatoid Arthritis and Subjects at Risk for Development of Rheumatoid Arthritis
ConclusionThese findings suggest that sputum antibody reactivity to particular citrullinated and noncitrullinated proteins/peptides is specific for RA and for subjects at risk of RA, and the association of these proteins/peptides with NETs may be a key feature of early RA–related autoimmunity in the lung. These results further support the hypothesis that the lung plays a role in early RA–related autoimmunity. (Source: Arthritis and Rheumatism)

Features, Treatment, and Outcomes of Macrophage Activation Syndrome in Childhood ‐Onset Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
ConclusionMAS was most likely to develop concomitantly with childhood‐onset SLE diagnosis. The majority of the MAS patients were successfully treated with corticosteroids with no MAS relapses. Although the numbers were small, there was a higher risk of death associated with MAS compared to SLE without MAS. (Source: Arthritis and Rheumatism)

A CD8 α‐ Subset of CD4+SLAMF7+ Cytotoxic T Cells is Expanded in Patients with IgG4‐Related Disease and Decreases following Glucocorticoid Treatment
ConclusionsA subset of CD8α‐CD4+SLAMF7+ cytotoxic TEM cells is oligoclonally expanded in patients with active IgG4‐RD. This population contracts following glucocorticoid‐induced remission. Further characterization of this cell population may provide prognostic information and targets for therapeutic intervention. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved. Differential clinical associations of anti ‐nuclear matrix protein‐2 autoantibodies in patients with idiopathic inflammatory myopathies
ConclusionThis study indicated that anti‐NXP‐2 autoantibodies served as a useful marker for disease activity, especially in patients without calcinosis. The differential associations between anti‐NXP‐2 autoantibody levels and disease activity suggested a phenotypic difference between patients with and without calcinosis. This article is protected by copyright.
