Digital volumetric measurements based on 3D scans of the lower limb: A valid and reproducible method for evaluation in lymphedema therapy
Exact quantification of volumetric changes of the extremities is difficult and often error prone. The aim of this study was to establish a standardized method based on 3D scans. Furthermore, this study tests the method in terms of reproducibility and evaluates volume changes after surgical therapy in patients suffering from lymphedema on the lower extremity. Complicated and Uncomplicated Isolated Abdominal Aortic Dissections Demonstrate Different Patient Characteristics and Outcomes
Isolated abdominal aortic dissection (IAAD) is a rare entity with poorly defined risk factors and wide variation in management. We set forth to compare patient characteristics, management, and outcomes of uncomplicated IAAD (uIAAD) versus high risk and complicated IAAD (hrcIAAD) to investigate whether these categories can be utilized to guide IAAD management and provide risk stratification for intervention. Outcomes of Patients with Acute Type B Aortic Dissection and High-Risk Features
The objective of this study was to assess differences in demographics, clinical presentation, symptom onset, and outcomes in high-risk patients that underwent either thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) or best medical management for acute TBAD compared to those with co mplicated and uncomplicated acute TBAD. Does the addition of rectus sheath block for postoperative analgesia actually enhance patient recovery after open aortic surgery?
With great interest we read the recent article by Cleary and colleagues,1 which determined the effects of adding a continuous rectus sheath block (RSB) for postoperative pain control on opioid consumptions and recovery of patients after open abdominal aortic surgery in a small-sample retrospective research. They showed that the addition of a continuous RSB resulted in decreased opioid consumptions during hospital stay and at discharge, with shortened time to extubation and length of stay. We congratulate the authors for their work that attempted to explore postoperative regional analgesia technique for enhancing recovery a...

Ocular Ischemic Syndrome and the Role of Carotid Artery Revascularization
Ocular ischemic syndrome (OIS) is a rare presentation of atherosclerotic carotid artery stenosis that can result in permanent visual loss. This severely disabling syndrome remains under diagnosed and undertreated due to lack of awareness; especially since it requires expedited multidisciplinary care. The relevance of early diagnosis and treatment is increasing due to an increasing prevalence of cerebrovascular disease. (Source: Annals of Vascular Surgery)

Reduced Muscle Mass and Muscle Quality in Patients with Intermittent Claudication due to Peripheral Artery Disease
Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is associated with reduced muscle mass and quality, but the effects of leg ischemia caused by PAD on muscle quality remain poorly understood. The purpose of this study was to evaluate leg muscle mass and muscle quality in patients with intermittent claudication due to PAD using bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA). Outcomes of Endovascular and Open Surgical Therapy for Popliteal Artery Injury
Popliteal arterial injury carries an appreciable risk of limb loss and, despite advances in stent and stent-graft technology, endovascular therapy for popliteal arterial trauma is infrequently used when compared with traditional open repair. Thus, this study aims to assess outcomes of endovascular management (EM) with open surgery (OS) as a historical reference. (Source: Annals of Vascular Surgery)

Comparative Outcomes of Peripheral Vascular Interventions in Patients on Chronic Anticoagulation with Factor Xa Inhibitors and Vitamin K Antagonists
In patients undergoing revascularization for peripheral arterial disease (PAD), low-dose Factor Xa inhibitors (FXaI) taken with aspirin improved limb and cardiovascular outcomes compared to aspirin alone. Further, in atrial fibrillation and venous thromboembolism, FXaI are recommended over vitamin K antagonists (VKA) for chronic anticoagulation. While studies have evaluated different perioperative anticoagulation regimens in patients treated for PAD, the optimal regimen for chronic anticoagulation in patients with PAD undergoing PVI has not been determined.
