Fetal cardiac sectional schemas & #8211; Normal and abnormal. Part 1: Upper abdominal and thoracic sections
Conclusions : An attempt is made to represent the fetal echocardiographic images by simplified memorable sectional schemas. These schemas will facilitate a better understanding and interpretation of various normal and abnormal fetal echocardiographic images. Being electronically transmittable, these schemas can be used as templates for further modifications. (Source: Annals of Pediatric Cardiology)

Rates of depression, anxiety, and stress in parents of children with congenital heart disease using the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale
Conclusions : Scores concerning for depression, anxiety, and stress peak at different points for parents. Length of stay for the index surgery and being in a relationship are important factors in the mental health of parents. (Source: Annals of Pediatric Cardiology)

Mechanical QT and JT intervals by M-mode echocardiography: An extrapolation from the concurrent electrocardiographic tracings
Conclusions : Based on our findings, we propose to measure the averaged mechanical QT and JT intervals by using an angled M-mode tracing of the aortic and mitral valve in five consecutive beats in the parasternal long-axis view. This is the first study on mechanical QT and JT intervals in healthy children. The study opens the horizons into the in-utero diagnosis of congenital long QT syndrome by measuring fetal QT and JT intervals using the widely available M-mode echocardiography (Source: Annals of Pediatric Cardiology)

Assessment of the effect of two regimens of milrinone infusion in paediatric patients with pulmonary artery hypertension undergoing corrective cardiac procedure: A prospective observational study
Conclusions : Early use of milrinone in patients with PAH undergoing corrective cardiac surgeries improved CI and mean arterial pressure, decreased MPAP, improved urine output, decreased serum lactate level, and decreased requirement of inotropes and vasopressors after weaning from CPB compared to the milrinone bolus group. Advanced imaging and digitization of preserved heart specimens using virtual reality & #8211; A primer
Conclusions : We believe that in vitro heart specimens can be easily scanned with high fidelity at a relatively low cost, without causing damage, using high-dose CT and MRI. The ability to “walk through” different chambers of the heart makes the understanding of anatomy easy and intuitive. VR and 3D printing are technologies that could be easily adapted to digitize preserved heart specimens, making it globally accessible for teaching and training purposes. Ventricular septal defect Doppler peak gradient underestimates right ventricular systolic pressure in the presence of right bundle branch block
Santosh C Uppu, Shubhika Srivastava, Barry A LoveAnnals of Pediatric Cardiology 2022 15(3):320-322 Estimation of the right ventricular systolic pressure (RVSP) using echocardiographically derived maximal instantaneous gradient across the ventricular septal defect is a well-utilized tool, which can potentially underestimate the RVSP in patients with conduction abnormalities as such its utility in these patients is questionable. Unusual cause of tricuspid valve obstruction after surgical aortic valve replacement
Sreekanth Yerram, Tella Ramakrishna Dev, Srinivas BhyravavajhalaAnnals of Pediatric Cardiology 2022 15(3):317-319 Unruptured sinus of Valsalva aneurysm can present with manifestations due to local compression or protrusion into the chambers. Right ventricular inflow obstruction is a rare manifestation. This image highlights the tricuspid valve obstruction due to a Valsalva aneurysm in a patient after surgical aortic valve replacement. Large aortic pseudoaneurysm after Bentall procedure in a patient with Marfan & #39;s syndrome
David Saul, Vinay Kandula, Achala Donuru, Christian Pizarro, Mary Patricia HartyAnnals of Pediatric Cardiology 2022 15(3):314-316 An 11-year-old male with Marfan's syndrome and aortic root dilatation underwent an uneventful Bentall procedure to replace his aortic root and valve. Five months later, surveillance echocardiogram revealed a slowly enlarging pseudoaneurysm arising from the ascending aorta. This finding was subsequently confirmed by computed tomographic angiogram. The patient had successful open surgical repair and paraaortic hematoma evacuation. (Source: Annals of Pediatric Cardiology)

Diphtheritic myocarditis: An unusual and reversible cause of heart failure
Balaji Arvind, Vineeta Ojha, Sudheer Kumar Arava, Sandeep Seth, Sivasubramanian RamakrishnanAnnals of Pediatric Cardiology 2022 15(3):311-313 Diphtheria is a life-threatening infectious disease caused by Corynebacterium diphtheriae. Although the disease is seen infrequently in the postvaccination era, sporadic cases continue to occur. Cardiac involvement, in the form of myocarditis, is the most serious manifestation of diphtheria and is the most common cause of mortality in these patients. The features of diphtheritic myocarditis on cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) have not been reported previously. In this brief ...

An unusual cause of heart failure in postoperative tetralogy of Fallot
Gurbhej Singh, Arun Gopalakrishnan, Sivasubramonian SivasankaranAnnals of Pediatric Cardiology 2022 15(3):308-310 The long-term results of transatrial transpulmonary tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) repair have been excellent. Progressive pulmonary regurgitation and consequent right ventricular (RV) dilatation are the most common long-term sequel of definitive repair in childhood. Overt systemic venous congestion after TOF repair is limited to the rare setting where RV dysfunction sets in due to deferred surgery or progressive arrhythmia. Here, we report a unique case of right heart failure from an unexpected etiology, 28 years ...

Vascular neoplasia masquerading as cellulitis and persistent hemorrhagic pericardial effusion
We report a rare case of a 5-month-old infant with complicated vascular neoplasm involving the pericardial cavity and skin over cervical region, masquerading as infective pericarditis with cellulitis. The patient responded dramatically to therapy with oral prednisolone and sirolimus, with a significant reduction of size of skin lesions and complete resolution of pericardial effusion over 8 weeks. The report also highlights the importance of a multidisciplinary team in managing such complicated cases. (Source: Annals of Pediatric Cardiology)

Congenital portosystemic shunt with multiple splenic artery aneurysms: Reversing pulmonary hypertension and preventing aneurysm rupture
We report an unusual occurrence of multiple splenic artery aneurysms and splenomegaly in a young woman with severe pulmonary hypertension, secondary to a congenital portosystemic shunt (CPS). The splenic artery was occluded using an Amplatzer Duct Occluder-II device, and closure of the large intrahepatic CPS was achieved using a muscular ventricular septal defect occluder. There was resolution of splenomegaly with normal pulmonary artery pressures, a few months after the procedure. (Source: Annals of Pediatric Cardiology)

A rare cause of ischemic heart failure in a neonate
Zainab AlAwadhi, Deepu Abraham, Nilesh Oswal, Mohamed KasemAnnals of Pediatric Cardiology 2022 15(3):297-299 Herein, we present a case of ischemic heart failure that occurred immediately after birth in a neonate due to coronary artery fistula (CAF) from the left main coronary artery to the left atrial appendage associated with high pulmonary artery pressure. Ischemic heart failure in a neonate with a structurally normal heart is rare. Furthermore, CAF resulting in ischemic heart failure is very rare in neonates. We believe that the small CAF caused symptoms during the first few days of life due to moderate pulmonary hyper...
