Awake brain mapping by direct cortical stimulation; technical note to get higher resection rate and low morbidity in low-grade glioma patients
CONCLUSION: Functional realignment in shifted brain and edema can be seen while doing cortical and subcortical stimulation. Most of the stimulation from low to high for language mapping may vary from patient to patient. For safe removal of low-grade glioma a steep learning curve is needed to find out the negative areas, though the authors emphasize positive mapping of areas to secure the maximum eloquence.PMID:38576956 | PMC:PMC10990364 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000001837 (Source: Annals of Medicine)

Chorea as the only presenting clinical feature of rheumatic fever: a case report
CONCLUSION: Any child presenting with a movement disorder should also be considered for SC, necessitating additional testing, including a cardiovascular assessment. It needs to be distinguished from other causes of movement disorders as well as psychiatric conditions. Treatment is necessary for moderate to severe chorea that interfere with daily activities. Compliance with subsequent antibiotic prophylaxis is essential for avoiding future cardiac complications.PMID:38576957 | PMC:PMC10990359 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000001798 (Source: Annals of Medicine)

Study of caudal ropivacaine with or without dexmedetomidine for postoperative analgesia in paediatric genitourinary infraumbilical surgery: a double-blinded randomized controlled trial
This study was designed to determine the analgesic effect of caudal Dexmedetomidine with Ropivacaine in paediatric genitourinary infraumbilical surgeries. Postoperative analgesic effects of caudal Ropivacaine with or without Dexmedetomidine in paediatric genitourinary infraumbilical were evaluated. This study was a prospective, interventional, comparative study conducted after ethical approval from the institute. Informed expressed consent was taken from each patient's guardians. The sample size was calculated to be 31 in each group. The two groups were randomly assigned and the intervention involved caudal epidural inject...

Meconium aspiration syndrome: from pathophysiology to treatment
Ann Med Surg (Lond). 2024 Feb 15;86(4):2023-2031. doi: 10.1097/MS9.0000000000001835. eCollection 2024 Apr.ABSTRACTMeconium aspiration syndrome (MAS) is a clinical condition characterized by respiratory distress in neonates born through meconium-stained amniotic fluid (MSAF). Despite advances in obstetric practices and perinatal care, MAS remains an important cause of morbidity and mortality in term and post-term newborns. Since the 1960s, there have been significant changes in the perinatal and postnatal management of infants born through MSAF. Routine endotracheal suctioning is no longer recommended in both vigorous and n...

A case report of uncommon giant epidermal inclusion cyst found in the thyroid gland
CONCLUSION: it is important to consider the possibility of EIC when benign squamous cells are detected in a thyroid aspirate without any follicular cells. In such cases, hemithyroidectomy can be a successful management strategy.PMID:38576964 | PMC:PMC10990355 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000001825 (Source: Annals of Medicine)

Therefore, the main aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between patients with diabetes and IDA in relation to taking iron pills daily and every other day to reduce the effects related to it. Ninety-one participants were enroled and randomly divided into two groups, with a final analysis cohort of 72 patients. The primary focus was on changes in serum Hb and Ferriti...

Comparison of cystectomy and lobectomy of lung hydatid cyst in pediatrics: a retrospective study
CONCLUSION: The complications and outcome of the cystectomy are comparable to the lobectomy technique. However, the cystectomy method has the advantage of preserving the lung tissue, therefore it's a favourable technique in endemic areas for hydatid cysts where reoperation may be indicated.PMID:38576968 | PMC:PMC10990369 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000001823 (Source: Annals of Medicine)
